Q: In reference to Question #1, can you initiate Remote Assistance from the Server?

A: Yes, you can use the Server Management console, Client Computers task pad, Offer Remote Assistance.

Q: For Question #11, what about Remote Web Workplace? Wouldn't that work for remote administration of the server? Which open ports on the firewall would be needed for that?

Q: For Question #14, does the DHCP server (DH1) provide IP information for the RAS clients?

A: Yes, the DHCP server would provide an IP address as well as the additional scope information (default gateway, DNS server addresses, WINS server addresses, etc.) to remote clients.

Q: Where do you configure the DHCP relay agent for a RAS server?

A: Open the Routing and Remote Access (RRAS) management console, right-click on the server and click Properties. On the IP tab, you can choose the desired method for obtaining remote client IP addresses.

Q: When would you use Microsoft Office Groove versus Windows SharePoint Services?

Q: Where is the "Previous Versions" client stored on the Windows SBS 2003 server?

A: The default location is \\<sbs-server>\ClientApps\ShadowCopy.

Q: What uses TCP port 3389?

A: This is the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) and is used by Remote Desktop Connection, Terminal Server, etc.

Q: How many Remote Desktop Connections can you have at the same time?

A: You can only have two connections to the Windows SBS 2003 server and one to any of the Windows clients.

Q: Can the database for Windows SharePoint Services on Windows SBS 2003 be installed on a separate server?

Q: Can I select SQL Server databases for backup when running the Configure Backup wizard?

A: No, the wizard will perform the following tasks:

1. Back up to tape or hard disk

2. Specify folders to exclude from the backup

3. Define a backup schedule

4. Specify an onsite user to manage the backup media

5. Configure the server to retain deleted e-mails and files

You can, however, use NTBackup to protect SQL Server databases.

Q: When you use the Configure Backup wizard in Windows SBS 2003, what backup strategy does it use?

A: It performs a full backup every day.

Q: Can you do incremental, differential, or copy backups in a Windows SBS 2003 environment?

A: Yes, you can use NTBackup to perform these types of backups.

Q: When using the Configure Backup wizard, can I specify folders to include as well as folders to exclude?

A: No, for more granular control of backup selections, use NTBackup.

Q: For the first backup following a Full backup, what is the difference between an Incremental backup and a Differential backup?

A: There is no difference in the files that are selected for backup using either method in that scenario. However, the differential backup will not clear the archive bit on the files it backs up, while the incremental backup will—that is the difference between those two methods.

Q: Can you use NTBackup to backup to recordable CD or DVD media?

A: No, this is not currently supported.

Q: Does NTBackup begin with a shadow copy?

A: In order to backup open files, NTBackup makes a shadow copy. This is not the same thing as configuring Volume Shadow Copy for a volume.

Q: Can Windows XP Home PCs use Volume Shadow Copy?

A: If you makes files available via Shared Folders, and that folder is stored on a Windows Server volume for which Volume Shadow Copy is enabled, then it would not matter what client was used when accessing the files.

Q: Could you use NTBackup to backup files to a hard drive and then use a third-party remote service to upload the backup offsite?

A: Yes.

Q: Is there a way to emulate fax modems, extra NICs, and hard drives in Virtual Server 2005?

A: It is not possible to emulate a fax modem, but you can configure multiple NICs and hard drives.

Q: What is the best way to move users’ data from their current user profiles to the domain user profiles which get created when they join the Windows SBS 2003 domain? They are currently in a workgroup.

A: The Connect Computer wizard migrates user profiles automatically.

A: No, you must run Exchange Server 2003.

A: Yes. Please note that your Windows SBS 2003 R2 CALs do not apply to Exchange Server 2007, so you would need additional CALs.

Q: Can you add additional Exchange Server 2003 Standard machines to a Windows SBS 2003 network?

A: Yes.

Q: Windows SBS 2003 must be the top of the Forest, but can this be changed when the Transition Pack is used?

A: Yes. You can move the FSMO roles to other domain controllers once you use the Transition Pack.

Q: I heard that a second domain controller CANNOT also be a DNS server, is that true?

A: It can be a DNS server, but make sure it is Active Directory integrated (which is the default).

Q: Are the DHCP scope options unique to Windows Server?

Q: Can you join a computer that resides on a different IP subnet to a Windows SBS 2003 domain?

A: Yes, but DHCP Relay has to be enabled on all intervening routers.

Q: Why are some of my workstations not showing up in Network Neighborhood after being joined to the doamin?

A: This is most likely caused by the client computer’s Windows Firewall settings.

Q: How do I set up networking with Virtual PC 2007?

A: You can use Loopback adapters to simulate simple network connections. Or you can download Virtual Server 2005 R2 (a free download), which allows you to create virtual networks.

Q: When exactly do you install the R2 Technologies when installing Windows SBS 2003 R2?

A: Typically, you would insert the R2 Technologies CD and install those components after installing the base Windows SBS 2003 SP1 CD’s (or DVD). Also, if you have the Premium Edition, you would install the Premium Technologies CD’s before installing the R2 Technologies.

Q: In the past couple months almost every system I monitor has been sending "Allocated Memory Alert" - A large amount of memory is committed to applications and processes. Consistently high memory usage can cause performance problems". I have reset the monitoring but the messages keep coming. How do you locate the cause and eliminte it without disabling?

A: You need to adjust.

Q: Can the SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition component of Windows SBS 2003 R2 Premium Edition be installed on a member server?

A: No, it must be installed on the Windows SBS server.

Q: Is Windows SBS 2003 R2 a free upgrade from Windows SBS 2003?

Q: If I have purchased an additional 20 Windows SBS 2003 CALs, do I have to upgrade them when I upgrade to Windows SBS 2003 R2?

A: No. You can use the same CALs you previously purchased.

Q: If you run into the 75 CAL limit and upgrade to Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition, do you need to upgrade all your CALs?

A: Yes.

Q: Does a member server running Windows Server 2003 always require a device CAL? If yes, then do the remaining four CALs in the package all have to be device CALs as well (not user CALs)?

Q: Can Windows SBS 2003 use multiple cores on multiple processors, such as a dual quad-core server?

A: Yes. Windows SBS 2003 is limited to two physical sockets, but is not limited in the number of CPU cores that can be used.

Q: What differences are there between Outlook Web Access (OWA) and Outlook over the Internet (RPC over HTTP)?

A: Outlook Web Access is a browser-based client for connecting to and interacting with your Exchange Server. Outlook over the Internet is a method of using the normal Outlook client application to connect to your Exchange server by “tunneling” RPC communications inside of HTTP packets which can be sent over the Internet.

Q: I understand that Outlook Web Access (OWA) for Exchange Server 2007 is "better" than the version of OWA for Exchange Server 2003 that is included in Windows SBS 2003. Is that true or merely subjective?

A: Exchange Server 2007 does provide many improvements for OWA. However, you cannot upgrade the version of Exchange Server used in Windows SBS 2003. Support for Exchange Server 2007 will be available in the next version of Windows SBS.

Q: Where can I find information about reconfiguring Windows SharePoint Services to use SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition instead of MSDE?

Q: Do we need to be familiar with the Windows SharePoint Service roles for the 70-282 exam?

A: Yes, you must know the different default roles for SharePoint.

Q: If you have added groups to a user, and then run the Change User Permissions wizard, will it reset all permissions and remove the previously granted groups?

A: You have the option to replace or append the existing permissions in the wizard.

Q: After modifying a default user template, does the change become effective immediately for users that were previously set up using that template? If not, what has to happen for it to become effective?

A: Modifying a template does not modify the users that were created using that template. However, you can use the Change User Permissions wizard to update users accounts with the current settings from a template.

Q: Which NTFS permission allow users to delete a file or folder?

Q: If a folder is moved to a new partition (causing NTFS inherited permissions to be set), are inherited permissions turned back on for all child folders and files, too?

Q: If you upgrade Windows SBS 2003 to the R2 release, are you required to rename the domain to use .pri instead of .local?

A: No, it is not necessary. In fact, you cannot change the domain name with re-installing Windows SBS.

Q: Is there a way to change the domain’s top-level domain from .local to .pri, when upgrading to Windows SBS 2003 R2?

A: No, you cannot change the domain name with re-installing.

Q: Can you use the top-level domain .pri with Windows SBS 2003 versions prior to R2?

A: Yes. There are no restrictions in using the .pri naming convention.

Q: Can we save a group policy object (GPO) or export the settings from one server and import them on another server? If so how?

Q: If a file is copied from a folder with very restrictive permissions to a folder with full permissions, do both files (the original file and the new copy of the file) obtain the least restrictive permissions?

A: No. When a file is copied from one location to another, whether on the same or different volume, a new file is created in the destination location. The file inherits the permissions, the Access Control List (ACL), from its parent folder. The original file permissions are not modified in any way. Also note that when a file is moved from one location to another on the same volume, the file retains its security descriptor--only the pointer to the resource is modified. However, when a file is moved from one location to another on a different volume, it acts similar to the copy, except the file is deleted from the source location. The moved file would then inherit the permissions from the destination parent folder.

Q: If WSUS was installed independently on a Windows SBS 2003 system (via download & install), should it be removed prior to installing the integrated version from the R2 supplemental CD?

A: No, that is not necessary. Also note that any custom changes or settings will be retained after installing the R2 Technologies CD.

Q: When using WSUS, do the PC users have to have admin authority for the updates to be installed?

A: No.

Q: I am running a Windows SBS 2003 Standard Edition server and want to upgrade to Windows SBS 2003 R2 Premium Edition so I have ISA Server 2004. What do I need to backup to move all the users and settings to the new install?

A: As a best practice, you should back up everything, including the System State. You will also need to install SP1 for Windows SBS 2003. Then you can install the new components from the Premium Technologies and R2 Technologies media that are included with Windows SBS 2003 R2.

Q: Is there any way to get the POP3 Connector to retrieve e-mail LESS than every 15 minutes?

A: No.

Q: Is it possible to add external email addresses to an Exchange Server 2003 distribution group?

A: Yes.

Q: Can you host public facing web sites on Windows Server 2003 Web Edition behind ISA Server in a Windows SBS 2003 environment?

A: Yes.

Q: Is the POP3 Connector an exclusive component of Windows Small Business Server 2003?

A: Yes. It is not included in other versions of Exchange Server 2003.

Q: Is the FTP Server available in the Standard Edition of Windows SBS 2003 or only the Premium Edition?

A: FTP Server is a component of IIS, and is available on all Windows Server platforms.

Q: When you use or assign a static IP address in SBS, must you also make a "reservation" in DHCP?

A: No. The more typical approach would be to use an IP address that is part of an exclusion range for the DHCP scope. In Windows SBS 2003, the default scope’s IP address range is 192.168.16.1 through 192.168.16.254. The IP address range 192.168.16.1 through 192.168.16.10 is excluded from automatic assignments, so you would use them for your static IP addresses.

Q: I only have a few Windows SharePoint Services web parts, but accessing the web part gallery takes forever. How can I speed this up?

Q: Can you explain more about the 75 concurrent users-or-devices limitation of Windows Small Business Server?
A: A user CAL permits one user (using any device) to access the server software. A device CAL permits one device (used by any user) to access the server software. Both types are offered to allow customers cost-effective licensing options. For example, per-user CALs are most effective when an employee uses several devices to access the server, such as a work computer and a home computer. Per-device CALs are most effective when several employees use the same device to access the server, such as rotating shifts in a call center. Q: If a client bought Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2, Premium Edition, does the license allow the SQL Server 2005 and Exchange Server 2003 components to be loaded on separate member servers?

A: No, you would have to have an additional licensed copy of those products to do this. However, the Windows SBS 2003 R2 CAL covers the clients accessing all the Exchange Server 2003 Standard and SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition servers in the domain.

Q: Is there a whitepaper on adding a third party trusted certificate to the Windows SBS 2003 environment?

A: Yes, every wizard has a configuration summary page. You can either print it at the end of the wizard or navigate to c:\program files\microsoft windows small business server and access the logs in the various wizard subdirectories.

Q: Under email retrieval method options in the CEICW, can I select both Use the Microsoft Connector for POP3 and E-mail is delivered directly to my server?

A: Yes.

Q: Is there information on setting up ISA Server 2004 with 3 network cards?

Q: What is meant by VPN Ports? Are these like TCP ports?

A: VPN ports are “end-points” that remote users connect to in order to access a private network. You need to configure as many end-points as you will have concurrently connected remote users. The default after running the CEICW is five. All PPTP-based VPN connections use TCP port 1723 to establish the connection. TCP ports and VPN ports are different kinds of ports.

Q: Would one of the static IP addresses excluded in the default DHCP scope created by the CEICW be used for a direct attached printer?

A: Yes. Also, you could choose to create another exclusion range just for printers, and use the lower IP address for member servers.

Q: What would it take to upgrade Windows SBS 2003 R2 to use ISA Server 2006?

A: The network configuration tools that are included with Windows SBS 2003 R2 do not support the new functionality that is included with ISA Server 2006. For this reason, do not install ISA Server 2006 on your server that is running Windows SBS 2003 R2.

Q: Does Microsoft have any instructions/documentation for the famous "swing" migration that so many consultants use?

Q: Can you explain the difference between Windows “software” RAID and 3rd party “hardware” RAID.

A: For the 70-282 exam, you will need to have a thorough understanding of Windows RAID functionality available through the Disk Management console. However, in most real-world scenarios, you will want to implement a 3rd party hardware controller that provides RAID functionality. Having dedicated hardware to perform the RAID calculations will provide better performance, and in many cases enhanced functionality, e.g., support for additional RAID levels.

Q: Can you explain the reason for naming the internal, private domain with .pri instead of .local?

A: This has been put forward as the new, standards-compliant domain suffix to use for internal DNS domain names. This top-level domain (TLD) name has been reserved for private use, much like the 192.168.x.y IP address space.

Q: Is there an SBS installer for WSUS 3.0?

A: No, the current version supports Exchange Server 2003.

Q: If Windows SBS 2003 R2 was purchased but the "R2 Technologies" were never installed, can they be installed after the server is already in production?

A: Yes.

Q: Can you install the "R2 technologies" even if WSUS was installed independently?

A: Yes. Any custom configuration settings for WSUS will be preserved.

Q: Can the original version of Windows SBS 2003 be in-place upgraded to Windows SBS 2003 R2?

Q: Is the 70-282 exam based on Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2?
A: Please keep in mind that the 70-282 is not an “SBS exam,” meaning that the concepts you need to understand and the knowledge you need in order to pass the exam are not exclusive to the SBS environment—although extensive familiarity with SBS is necessary. For example, you will need to understand basic networking, DNS, DHCP, RAID configurations, server sizing, etc.—all of which apply across the spectrum of Windows Server products. You may see scenarios where SBS 2003 R2 is used as the server platform in a question. Or it may be SBS 2003. You may also see scenarios where Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition is used. The bottom line is, if you use references that cover the original version SBS 2003 as the basis for your studies, you will be prepared to pass the exam—assuming you have a good understanding of general Windows Server 2003 basics. Again, don’t get distracted by the specific server platform used in the question scenario, instead focus on the intent of the question.

Q: On the current version of the 70-282 exam, would a question refer to SQL Server 2000 or SQL Server 2005?
A: Questions about SQL Server or ISA Server may refer to previous or current versions. The intent of the question is not to test your specific, in-depth knowledge of these products, but to test whether you know what they are, what they are used for, and that they are only included in the Premium Edition of SBS 2003, not the Standard Edition. The answer would apply to either version.

Q: Is there an SBS 2003 image for use with Virtual PC/Virtual Server and how do we get it?

Q: If an examine question requires that multiple answer options are selected, how is the question scored if you are missing only one of the correct answer options?

Q: Can a basic disk containing a FAT32 volume be converted to a dynamic disk?
A: Yes. Right-click on the disk in the Disk Management console and select “Convert to Dynamic Disk...”

Q: In a Small Business Server 2003 environment, does the primary Exchange server have to reside on the SBS machine?
A: Yes.

Q: What are the differences between basic and dynamic disks?
A: A basic disk is a physical disk that contains primary partitions, extended partitions, or logical drives. Partitions and logical drives on basic disks are known as basic volumes. You can only create basic volumes on basic disks. A dynamic disk contains dynamic volumes, such as simple volumes, spanned volumes, striped volumes, mirrored volumes, and RAID-5 volumes. With dynamic storage, you can perform disk and volume management without the need to restart Windows.

Q: When would you use an incremental backup?
A: Incremental backups are used when you want to make the smallest backup sets and have the backup process run in the shortest amount of time.

A: Not at this time.

Q: If a customer has SBS 2003 R2 and Software Assurance, will they be able to get Exchange Server 2007 as part of a migration to Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition and Exchange Server 2007 Standard Edition when they exceed the 75 CAL limit of SBS?

A: Currently, the Transition Packs available for SBS Standard and Premium Editions include Exchange Server 2003.

Q: Does Exchange Server 2003 included with Small Business Server 2003 support multiple email domains?

A: Yes.

Q: Most of my power users approach 2GB per mailbox, can Exchange Server 2003 handle that?

A: Yes, the total size of the Information Store, regardless of how it is used by individual mailboxes, can be 75GB when using Exchange Server 2003 SP2.

RAID

Q: Can you address the relative advantages of RAID-1 or RAID-5 as compared to Volume Shadow Copy for providing fault tolerance and redundancy?

A: A RAID configuration provides fault tolerance for physical hard drive failures, it is not a data backup solution. In contrast, Volume Shadow Copy provides for the automatic backup and recovery of data files on a volume.

Q: Can you mirror (RAID-1) two physical drives that are of different sizes?

A: Yes. However, the resultant volume can only be as large as the smallest partition.

Q: Will RAID-1 allow for continued use of the server when a hard drive fails?

A: Yes, although it is dependent on the nature of the drive failure. In some cases, the server may need to be rebooted.

Q: Can you convert basic disks to dynamic with the system running (for adding a mirror to a single system drive)?

A: Volumes must be dismounted in order to convert them from basic to dynamic disks. Therefore, for the system drive only, it is necessary to reboot to complete the conversion.

Q: Is there a mini-cast on restoring a RAID-5 configuration after a drive has failed?

A: No, but we will look into creating one.

Q: With hardware RAID-5, can you store the boot partition on the array?

A: Yes.

Q: Can a RAID-1 and a RAID-5 partition exist on a single physical drive?

A: Yes. However, this is not recommended when designing a fault tolerant environment.

Q: If it is recommended to create a RAID-1 volume for the system drive and a RAID-5 volume for data, then does the server need a minimum of five physical hard drives?

A: Yes. For Windows software-level RAID, five physical hard drives are required for this scenario.
