Hi WSUS Admins:
Just a friendly reminder, the latest Silverlight update rollup was released today. So if you have Silverlight deployed in your environment make sure you validate and approve it to continue Silverlight’s serviceability in your managed environment. If you haven’t deployed Silverlight yet, you can sync feature packs and approve Silverlight for distribution to your managed computers.
Silverlight is a technology used by developers to provide both a browsing experience and Internet service interactions. Clients will always need to have the latest version of Silverlight in order to access the broadest number of Web sites and services. Clients with direct web access and administrative rights on their computer can get these updates by navigating to a Silverlight Website, but you can choose to deploy Silverlight through WSUS, ensuring that the client always has the most secure, stable, and functional version of Silverlight installed.

I raised the issue 2 months ago regarding Silverlight being offered by WSUS to Server 2008 Core machines and today with this release again Silverlight 2 is being offered by WSUS to Server 2008 Core machines.
Refer to this post in the TechNet Forums for more info.
Не успел Silverlight 2.0 появится на сайте Microsoft, как готова версия для WSUS! Вот сообщение в блоге...
Why WSUS offer two updates:
1.Update for Microsoft Silverlight (KB 957938)
2.Microsoft Silverlight (KB 957938)
1. Is an 'Update Rollup'
2. Is a 'Feature Pack'
Presumably 1 is for machines already with Silverlight already installed and 2 is for systems that have yet to install Silverlight and have WSUS detection for 'Feature Packs' to be detected.
Until your post I had only seen the 1 as an update, and why it reports for Server Core I presume is because they still have not fixed the bug from 2 months ago.
The feature pack would be decided upon your WSUS settings for client machines if they are set to detect 'Feature Packs' as part of the WSUS updating process.
As an extra note, neither of the below sites have linked to this post yet and no doubt they typically all cross reference each sites posts on newly available updates to WSUS so lets hope they include in their posts some new information regarding my original issue posted above that has been active for +2 months now.
-> approve this if you want update systems with existing older silverlight (1.)
-> approve this if you want to install silverl. on systems that have no silverlight
I would like to see that for WS4 too but unfortunally current
WS4 will install always (so no way to update from older only and not if no W[D]S is installed on a XP system)
Just an FYI that over on the WSUS product team blog there's a post about the release of the latest Silverlight
WSUS so lets hope they include in their posts some new information regarding my original issue posted above that has been active for +2 months now.
I dont understand the lingo of what silverlight doesand what makes it so special to have? Im far from a computer geek!
Thanks to sitewide link exchanges I managed to get to the top10 in Google in quite a competitive market. So, it does work.
Автор, а у вас никто записи не ворует c блога? А то у меня заколебали уже - копируют и копируют. И главное, что даже ссылку на мой сайт никто не удосужится поставить.
The only problem I still have is that WSUS offers and still tries to install the silverlight on computers which silverlight does not support. I am talking about the CPU requirements and the necessity of SSE instruction set. (not in AMD Athlon CPUs)
This way I have reports about failed instalations and its driving me NUTS.
Понравилась статья. А будет ли продолжение ?
