  • I was running the Beta 2 version. Ran it very successfully for months. Then I get the news RTM is out! So I tried uninstalling  the Beta and installing the RTM making sure that I rebooted inbetween. No Go. I am now without WSUS of any kind. From the WSUSSetup log I get these two lines...

2007-04-30 12:05:48  Error      MWUSSetup       ParseCommandLine: Failed to open SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Update Services\Server\Setup registry key (Error 0x80070002: The system cannot find the file specified.)

2007-04-30  12:05:50  Error     MWUSSetup      DoInstall: ParseCommandLine failed (Error 0x80041453)

Sure would like to get WSUS back online soon.....

  • Environment is Windows 2003 R2 x64 with IIS and ASP.NET 2 (with all updates).

Ran WSUS 3 RTM on the default web site, appears to be okay, but the following Application Events were logged during installation for performance counters:

Windows cannot open the 32-bit extensible counter DLL ASP.NET in a 64-bit environment. Contact the file vendor to obtain a 64-bit version. Alternatively, you can open the 32-bit extensible counter DLL by using the 32-bit version of Performance Monitor. To use this tool, open the Windows folder, open the Syswow64 folder, and then start Perfmon.exe.

  • Continued errors - in order from oldest to newest in the Application Log:

Windows cannot access the file  for one of the following reasons: there is a problem with the network connection, the disk that the file is stored on, or the storage drivers installed on this computer; or the disk is missing. Windows closed the program C:\WINDOWS\system32\sqlctr90.dll because of this error.

The error value is listed in the Additional Data section.

    User Action

    1. Open the file again. This situation might be a temporary problem that corrects itself when the program runs again.

    2. If the file still cannot be accessed and

    - It is on the network, your network administrator should verify that there is not a problem with the network and that the server can be contacted.

    - It is on a removable disk, for example, a floppy disk or CD-ROM, verify that the disk is fully inserted into the computer.

    3. Check and repair the file system by running CHKDSK. To run CHKDSK, click Start, click Run, type CMD, and then click OK. At the command prompt, type CHKDSK /F, and then press ENTER.

    4. If the problem persists, restore the file from a backup copy.

    5. Determine whether other files on the same disk can be opened. If not, the disk might be damaged. If it is a hard disk, contact your administrator or computer hardware vendor for further assistance.

  • Just installing now. Thanks.

  • You're not going to get very good product support via the blog, but I'll take one attempt at helping you here.  In the future, you'll be better off posting in the newsgroups and taking advantage of the community of information.  More of the team responds there.

Don't expect a response here - please use the newsgroups for any follow-up.

shoult:  If you've fully uninstalled everything, try checking to see if you've got the registry key mentioned in the log.  Rename it, and try again.

Matt:  Is there any chance you're installing the wrong architecture version of WSUS?  (x86 on a x64 machine, or vice versa?)

  • Hello,

    I have a medium network.

I have some uses that leave the office for weeks, and I would like to send out the wsus updates.

How can I send only to my 2 ip address ranges / subnets and when the user remote into the network, they do not get the updates, only if they are in the office physically, cables plugged in.

    Regards

    Derek

  • It would be nice  to have instructio non ho wto manually remove WSUS 3.0.  Particularly when you can't reinstall it!

I currently get this useless error message

ParseCommandLine: Failed to open SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Update Services\Server\Setup registry key (Error 0x80070002: The system cannot find the file specified.)

I have search the net to find a soltion but no exist or work. This is a great idea for a KB or maybe it would be easier to just fix the setup program.
