  • New Language Support for Vista Client Updates

Hi WSUS Admins-  Not sure you've seen today but we have added support for new locale support options (language) in WSUS, that will be used to support the upcoming Windows Vista product. These languages include:  Bulgarian, Romanian, Croatian, Slovak, Thai, Ukrainian, Slovenian, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Hindi, Serbian (Latin).

    Thanks!

  • New MSXML Categories will appear in WSUS today

    WSUS Admins:

In response to confusion reqarding MSXML product family categories from MS06-061, released on October 10th, today you will see a new product family called "Microsoft Core XML Services" in your WSUS product synchronization options dialog.  In this new product family you will see Microsoft Core Xml Services 4.0 and Microsoft Core Xml Service 6.0 product categories, which are the full names for these MSXML versions.

MSXML 4.0 and MSXML 6.0 are used widely in a broad range of scenarios, by Microsoft and 3rd party applications, so they will now appear under their own product category family, "Microsoft Core XML Services", effective today 11/9/06.  WSUS Admin's are encouraged to verify this new product family, or one or both of its' associated product categories for MSXML 4.0 or MSXML 6.0, are selected to ensure uninterrupted synchronization for MSXML security and critical updates for the next, and subsequent update releases.

    thank you,

    Bobbie Harder, PM WSUS

  • SUS 1.0 Support End of Life is extended

    Hi Folks -

Well we dont want to leave anyone in the lurch,  or ruin anyone's holidays having to plan and execute on a quick migration at the last minute so, as many of you may have seen in the MSRC blog, we have decided to extend the SUS 1.0 support end-of-life date to Tues, July 10th, 2007.

    Here is the official word:

In response to customer feedback, and to provide customers with additional time to migrate off Software Update Services (SUS) 1.0, Microsoft has announced an extension to the end of support date to Tuesday, July 10, 2007.   Windows Server Update Services, (WSUS), the successor to SUS, supports updating for a broader set of Microsoft products and provides robust management and reporting features.  Customers can download WSUS from http://www.microsoft.com/updateservices.  Additionally, a beta version of the next release, WSUS 3.0 is available for evaluation.  WSUS 3.0 is expected to be released in the first half of calendar year2007. More information about the WSUS 3.0 beta 2 can be found from http://www.microsoft.com/wsus

SUS  customers wanting to upgrade to WSUS 3.0 when it releases, will still need to migrate to WSUS 2.0.  There will be no upgrade path supported from SUS 1.0 to WSUS 3.0 and customers are still encouraged to plan and complete their WSUS migrations from SUS 1.0.  SUS1.0 to WSUS Migration documentation can be found here: http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsServer/f/?en/Library/c86e95dc-381f-47a2-b761-1fe0f13ad3f41033.mspx.    We will also have migration documentation published from SUS 1.0 to WSUS 3.0.

Hope this helps give some breathing room for some folks - but come on over to WSUS and leave your wimpy SUS server in the dust:)

  • MSXML cateogory revision

Hi Folks -  Wanted to let you know about a change in categories, under which the MSXML update in MS06-071 was published.  This is different from what i posted earlier and was a last minute change.  The MSRC blog (http://blogs.technet.com/msrc details the change as well as provides additional information on the availability to SUS.

Some of you have reported you are not seeing WSUS display the relationship between MS06-071 and the update it replaces MS06-061.  Because the updates were published associated to two seperate product categories, that relationship does not appear in WSUS from the November release.   However, MS06-061 will be re-published associated to the Windows category as MS06-071 in an upcoming future release.  At that time the relationship between the 2 updates will appear as expected.  thnks - Bobbie

  • Zune product category appearing in WSUS

Hi Folks - I see a few of you have seen the new consumer product category that showed up in WSUS today for "Zune".  Like 'Codename Max',  this is a consumer offering and no updates for Zune will be available via WSUS.

So then 'why does it appear in the WSUS product category selection dialog" you ask?

With the current publication solution there is a limitation so that categories published to Microsoft Update also appear in WSUS product categories. We are aware of this, don't like it either, but do plan to have this rectified in our future version (WSUS 3.0) to make sure WSUS admins only view product categories intended for WSUS.

For now we appreciate your patience and will continue to advise you of new product categories before or as they appear in this blog.

    thanks!
