A registry needs to be added to enable the higher resolution (1024 x 768) for Windows 8 applications.

Run REGEDIT
Backup the registry to a file for recovery if required
Next, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video
Find the folder with 0000 and 0001
In the 0000 folder, add a new DWORD "Display1_DownScalingSupported"
Set the value to 1
Quit REGEDIT and reboot the laptop
After the laptop is boot up, change the display resolution to 1024 x 768

After all attempts i have succesfully able to change the resolution make sure its decimal change to 1 not hexidecimal running acer apire one zg5 then make sure to reboot

before you can do it you need to install graphics media accelerator.
