I observe the following bug:

On one of my machines with Server 2012 RC, after each reboot any Storage Pool created disappears.

The FSRM logs say the following:

File Server Resource Manager Service error: Unexpected error.

Error-specific details:

 Error: GetVolumeNameForVolumeMountPoint, 0x80070001, Incorrect function.

And the disks remain locked and inaccessible - not visible in primordial pool nor can I delete the "storage spaces protection partition" from them.

Initially, I worked around this by creating an empty 100mb partition at the begin of each disk, which temporarily stopped this from happening, but after some time they started to disappear again.

Is this a known issue? I can't find anything related on the web(

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We did a bunch of work in Server Manager around background tasks and shutdown sequences, to avoid issues like the one you are describing. Server Manager will block shutdown (notify user) when background workflows are performing critical activities.

I have passed your comment on to the appropriate teams to investigate further.

Thanks.

With Storage Spaces, there are two factors to consider: flexibility to mix disks of different size and performance from striping across multiple disks. The smaller you make your stripe, the fewer disks you involve in a stripe, the easier utilizing the capacity of disks of differing sizes is. The larger you make your stripe, the more performance you offer to your applications.

You can set the stripe size via the NumberOfColumns parameter of the New-VirtualDisk PowerShell command. The NumberOfColumns parameter determines how many disks Storage Spaces involves in a stripe. For simple and parity spaces, the number of disks selected for a stripe while rotating through the pool disks is equal to NumberOfColumns. For mirror spaces, the number of disks selected is the product of NumberOfColumns and another parameter, NumberOfCopies.

To optimize for mixing disks of differing sizes, as your post suggests you desire to do, you can set the minimum value for NumberOfColumns for each type of storage spaces. The minimums are: 1 for simple spaces, 1 for mirror spaces, and 3 for parity spaces.

Already installed it in a test-vm. only one thing left for me: maybe it's only me, but I'm still struggling with the new UI. The color scheme of Servermanager is...well...it takes some time getting used to it. Especially the contrast is not the best. A grey font on white background is difficult to read. And I really miss color coding in all the log sections. Why can't there be red/yellow/blue colors like in event viewer? Metro is a nice thing, but I think this one got over the top... Christian

After successful configuration of a name, IP, restarting it.

I've added ADDS Role and tried to provision a new forest with domain root and accidentally closed Server Manager after pushing finish button.

After that I investigated that provisioning didn't happened and after trying to create a new forest and root domain there appeared an error that this domain name already exists.

Even removing ADDS Role and re-adding it didn't helped.

So I decided to reinstall Windows Server 2012 RC

It's seems that provisioning was interrupted by simply closing Server manager. believe that this is a bug so I just wanted to mention it here. I don't know where I could mention it - there is no Connect portal for Windows Server 2012.

Thanks.
