Your Guide to the Latest Windows Server Product Information
No sooner had I posted my last entry than I got word of some other great news (it takes carrier pigeons quite a while to fly from Redmond to Kuala Lumpur). Hot on the heels of Windows Vista RC1, we have now released the August 2006 Community Technology Preview (CTP)of Windows Server "Longhorn". It's available for MSDN and TechNet subscribers to download.
Marked as Build 5600, the August 2006 CTP is an update to Windows Server "Longhorn" Beta 2. You won't find many additional features over Beta 2, but there are big gains in performance and reliability as we've been able to bake in all the core OS improvements that were happening simultaneously in Windows Vista [as well as fix a bunch of our own bugs ;-)].
Go get it now and let us know what you think!
[Note: Edited on September 12th to fix mistyped build number]
This is great news! I am downloading it now, since we are eager to try out the new build.

I have MSDN, I can’t find it there
Sorry for the confusion folks - the build number on the August 2006 CTP is actually 5600. Looks like my fingers got away from me in the excitement to post!
I don't see it on MSDN either.
I have MSDN also, and can't find it. I see Beta 2 for ia64, x86, and x64 ("Checked Build" and "English" for each), but that's it. :(

Does the Longhorn server installation screen say Windows Vista or am I using the wrong media?
I have checked with the MSDN team and they said there may have been an issue earlier where it was not visible for a while, so please check again. There should be x86 and x64 builds available.
The build is now up on MSDN.
