As a follow-up to my last post regarding the official name of Windows Server code name "Longhorn", I thought it might be interesting for people to see some other names that have been touted during our brainstorming meetings, but that will never see the light of day...

  • You’re killing me!  :)  My bet is on “Windows Server 2007”...

  • How about Windows Server 5.4.xxxx or Windows Server 6.0.xxxx?

I know it isn't cool and all, but would be nice.

Whatever you do, make sure the branding API doesn't have a stupid copyright symbol in it like Vista does. Those gomers are going to piss off legions of admins trying to do admin work from the command line because of that stupid symbol being stuck into Active Directory for the Operating System Name. Yeah I bugged that in the beta. It was initially closed because whomever fielded the bug figured it wasn't theres and that someone else had to do something and sent that to me like I can do anything about it. I contacted a friend inside of MSFT and got it reopened but it sounds like it is still not going to be fixed because no one seems to want to own up to the stupidity.

Some people around there need to start using the command prompt more so they understand the issues associated with it and the decisions they make.
