W’sup with Office Patches in WSUS

Following up on Joseph’s post last week, some first-time customers of Windows Server Update Services have asked something to the effect of "why can’t I see patches for Office and SQL Server?" Be assured, they’re there as this screen capture shows.

After you install WSUS and you check the categories of updates available, you will only see Windows (XP, Win2k, WS03, etc.) listed. Only after performing this first sync will you see other product categories -- Office, SQL and Exchange currently and more to come.

  • I can confirm that the Office patches are showing up ... but I can't install the darn things. It keeps on complaining that it can't find the MSI file. I've pointed it at the CD and it still doesn't like it.

I've got to the Office Update site and it complains the same way. What is *really* frustrating is that I then click on the "use the full big lengthy download version" and that fails as well! I guess I must have a really broken Office install :-(.
