When you land on TechNet Wiki, you'll notice 8 boxes near the top of the page:

There are many ways to navigate TechNet Wiki:

Today we're focusing on the 8 primary portals...

  1. Technologies - An alphabetical list of key articles on TechNet Wiki, divided by product/technology. The product overviews, survival guides, and product-specific portals usually make it to the top of the lists for each product.
  2. Platforms - A platform might be simply defined as 'a place to launch software.' It can include a framework or operating system. Check out the different platforms mentioned in TechNet Wiki.
  3. Development - TechNet Wiki includes and welcomes development-related articles.
  4. Cloud - Sections include Private Cloud, Cloud Security, Hybrid Cloud, Windows Azure. Windows Azure SQL Database, and ACS.
  5. Virtualization - Virtualization is primarily a software-based simulation of the underlying hardware. Check out the related articles on TNWiki.
  6. Security - Information security is the process of keeping computers and networks protected from theft, corruption, unwanted publication, tampering, or natural disaster, while keeping the information and property accessible and productive to its intended users. Check out the related articles on TNWiki.
  7. Management - Management refers to the administration of distributed systems. This includes hardware, server availability, software inventory and installation, anti-virus management, network capacity and utilization, and monitoring user activities, capacity, security, and storage.   8. Troubleshooting - A community-driven list of troubleshooting portals and articles covered on TechNet Wiki.

You'll probably notice my name as the author of those portals. If I remember the story correctly, in 2010, another early wiki member, Gerard, was pushing for the concept of portals with me. We originally had a few lists of links on the front page of TechNet Wiki, including a list of technologies. Well obviously the lists were getting too long for the front page, and so we decided on the concept of the portals. I remember that meeting. I had mocked up what the home page would look like linking to the portals. The portal links weren't active, so I created the portals during that meeting and was starting to fill them before the meeting was done. Only in Wiki! =^)

So stop on by TechNet Wiki, browse the portals, and see what you can find! And if you can't find it, then add it!
