Well, it took me long enough to figure out how to get this done, didn’t it?  The good news is that I have a brand new tool in my arsenal..  the bad news is that I burned a bunch of precious rural bandwidth trying to upload this material to inappropriate platforms.

The TechEd EMEA 2008 Developers interactive presentation Real-World Indexing from Microsoft IT is now available for download here at MSDN Code Gallery.

There are two ZIP files to download.  The first one contains a backup of the database, and a script to build four indexes on the largest table which I dropped in order to reduce the size of the backup file.  Restore the BAK to your system (if you call the database TechEdIndexingDemo, the subsequent scripts will be happy) and run the 00 Run This Script First.sql script to build the indexes.  The second ZIP file contains the PowerPoint deck of the presentation and the scripts I ran during it.  The scripts are liberally commented and should do a good job of running you through an indexing optimization logic chain.

The versioning demo will be loaded on my MSDN Code Gallery TechEd Developers 2008 Resource Page as well, as soon as I complete a stripped-down version of it (hopefully in the next few days).

Thanks to all for your interest and patience..  more soon!
