Frequent visitors to this space will recall that I'm spending the rest of this week in Moses Lake, WA, watching my son Kyle play in the Northern Washington Babe Ruth Baseball 13U Tournament.
This afternoon, Kyle's Redmond Raiders played their first game, against the Anacortes Hawks. The Raiders jumped out to a 5-0 lead and held off a last-inning rally by a determined Anacortes team to win 5-3.
The tournament is divided into two pools of five teams each. The top two teams in each pool will play in Monday's championship round, so the boys from Redmond are off to a fine start.
The weather here has been unusually cooperative. Triple-digit temperatures are the norm in this area; indeed, it was 104 last week. Today's high was in the low 80s, and similar weather is expected for the remainder of the week. My fears of heatstroke are, thus far, baseless.
After the game, most of our team enjoyed a picnic at Moses Lake State Park, a simply beautiful spot two minutes off of I-90. The boys swam in the lake while several of us prepared hamburgers and hot dogs. A touch football game and a some whiffle ball were also part of the festivities.
Tomorrow, the Raiders will play the team from Ellensburg, WA at 1pm. I'll post those results here ASAP; if you can't wait for me to get back to my internet connection, you can check the results here.
