the exchange management console organizational health page on the exchange 2010 server in my organization shows total number of standard cals required: 293 and enterprise cals required: 293, alothough none of the users use any enterprise features. as per the recipient summary on the same page, all 293 users use only owa, activesync, mapi,imap and pop3. i have standard cals for all users. do i need to buy enterprise cals? if so, why? if not, why is this shown like this on my exchange management console?

Well, its seems the answer was satisfying (somehow?) for some people but not the others. Im from the 'others' - mostly did not get it. So can somebody indeed clear this incredible licensing mess, considering there are no built-in 'safeguards' in Exchange itself that would tell you when I'm using features that Im not supposed to? Its virtually impossible to figure out.

Like for Integrated Archiving (meaning what- Global Journaling or third party Archiving software ..?) or Advanced Journaling (I guess thats the Global Archiving as opposite to the Journaling enabled per mailstore?) it is necessary to have Enterprise CAL. Ent.CAL for what? For the Journaling account used for Journaling mailbox? Or for every single user in organization?? The latter does not seem credible - why would I need to buy Ent Lic for everyone just because all email is getting copied to one more mailbox? Particularly that it seems I dont need EntCal if I simply do the same by clicking on each mailstore in a row. And not very credible either if its needed only for actual Journaling account since one Ent Cal is not worth discussion and would be really penny pinching on MS side. Similarly for Multi-mailbox search - occasionally I would do it but I never paid attention to the fact that I need some special lic for that or maybe ALL users have to have it?

So what is it really? Am I the only one who has difficulty to figure it all out?

Well I guess I have to keep looking. Amazing how software vendors just can produce a simple comparison table with the benefits of one version as compared to the other.

please brief answer and in a table if you can, what are the differences between the two editions (standard & enterprise).

what each one will be good enough for certain need and what will be the other one is too.

You are the expert of this product, and we need to know how to exactly we could provide our customer with the right product of yours.
