Monday, April 28th, 2014, my peer Todd Sweetser in his post OneDrive for Business updates including storage increasing to 1TB! summarized the salient points for cloud seller relating to the announcement of the same day discussed thoroughly in the Thinking Outside the Box Office Blog by John Case of the same day.
I encourage you to read either post! As the week has progressed, we have heard from many partner inquiring on details as to how Microsoft intends to handle the third major point of the announcement:
I thought I would take a moment to clarify and expound on that statement.
What we mean is that we will offer migration assistance to customers through the already established vehicles of FastTrack and the Cloud Deployment Partner (CDP) Program. So this is basically utilizing existing programs you can be (or could have been) involved with and extending it to Onedrive for Business migrations.
Basically, until June end – OneDrive for Business counts (over 150 seats) for deployment funding.
As a Microsoft Partner you can become part of the Cloud Deployment Partner Program by Completing the following:

After you have completed these requirements, you will be automatically be enrolled into the Cloud Deployment program and can begin accessing the benefits listed in the table on this page
Which customers qualify for the migration/deployment funding and what’re the details of the offer?
· The Office 365 Deployment Offer is available to new Office 365 customers. During the offer period, Microsoft will reimburse a Cloud Deployment Partner or Microsoft Consulting Services up to $20,000 per tenant toward a fixed scope of Office 365 FastTrackStep 2 deployment activities.
· Net new purchases of Office 365 E-Plans, Exchange Online or OneDrive for Business with Office Online are eligible for this investment.
· This offer is available to all commercial and government customers in all countries where Office 365 is available through the following Licensing programs: EA/EAS, Open, Open Value, Open Value Subscription, MPSA, AOS, and MOSP.
· With this offer, Microsoft will invest in the deployment of customers that purchase at least 150 seats of select Office 365 SKUs (E1, E3, E4, EP1, EP2, ODB, or equivalent government “G” SKUs) between September 2013- June 30th 2014.
The bottom line
As a tenured Microsoft employee I have been drinking the Kool-Aid for quite some time. Still, at times I have struggled with aspect of our partner programs just like many of you. That said, I cannot think of a more valid reason to pursue one of the qualifying competencies for the CDP. Hmm… 20k toward a deployment (or several) vs. the cost of a competency. NO BRAINER!
