Q: (from Jeff)
I’ve got a customer who will be typically using Office from their Terminal Services (RDS) farm. But if there are connectivity problems, they want the option of running Office locally. Do they need to license Office with Software Assurance.
I knew I wanted to do some research on this. The number of licenses required will be determined by the computers accessing Office:
Here are my reference links:
So if I understand your question correctly, you only need to provide Volume Licensed copies of Office.
Do I need server user CALs too allow users to access RDS as well as the RDS CALs?
Sorry! Forgot to mention, the server will only be used for RDS
@Iain yes you do
I don't work for MS
You may also want to try remote desktop software used for free Ammyy Admin
I really believe it's config-zero software is the best and I do recommend it.
OK my scenario is as follows. I have a main site with 8 remote sites. I just setup a brand new Windows Server 2008 RDS box for the remote users to login and run their AS400 app along with a logging ap for drivers. They will need to run Office on the RDS Server but they will beusing disk less windows based terminals at the remote sites. The RDS Server is a member server in an AD Domain with another Server 2008 acting as the domain controller. I am assuming 10 Vulume License copies of Office 2010 Standard installed on the RDS server correct?
So If I have a remote desktop server that is managing connections from multiple thin clients, do the licenses I purchase through technet also allow offline use on other systems or only the thin clients?
Going back to the original answer,
The number of licenses required will be determined by the computers accessing Office:
Is this answer published by Microsoft as written?
Also back to the example,
Will I only need 10 Office licenses for an organization with 20 company owned computers that I limit accessing office to only 10 devices via RDS sessions?
If I wanted to Use MAC Based Licensing for Msoffice application which is going to be published in 10 Citrix Servers for 500 users (Both Home and Office ,device they can use any) How many Licenses I should by for 500 Users?
