With the release of Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 beta, achieving new levels of reliability and performance while addressing the challenges of a new world of work as end-users are becoming more mobile has become easier.

The world around me has changed! The way I used to see people work 10 years ago has changed from the way they are working nowadays. Year after another, I tend to see people becoming more mobile, trying to be closer to their customers and partners, trying to have more work done by streamlining processes within their group or through cross-group collaboration.

One day, on my way back from one of those meetings, it was a normal rush-hour in Dubai, raining and cars are passing by slowly and cautiously. I was listening to my voice mails, responding to some e-mails (using Outlook Voice Access) and checking my calendar for the rest of the day. I looked at the car next to me with the driver trying to reply to his e-mails while driving his car.. Looking at the keyboard of his mobile for couple of seconds while typing part of the message and then looking at the car in front of him not to hit it..

I felt sorry for him. He must have a lot of work to do and he is trying to use time and be more productive while he is on the go. But this is also risky, driving and maybe by mistake hitting the person in front of him.

How could one maintain the same level of productivity while he is on the go, regardless of the situation and the scenario he is in was the question that came to mind.. And I thought, one could only achieve the same level of productivity – either by

  1. Working more hours in the office instead of the ones missed between meetings, commute, etc..
  2. Try and achieve the same amount of work while they are mobile, commuting or between meetings as if they are still in the office.

Being able to work from anywhere, anytime is not something that was common in any previous place I worked in, in this part of the world at least. After joining Microsoft, this is different. The focus Microsoft has on people the technology that is built with “People” be in the center has changed a lot of things for the way I do work.

Not to ruin the beauty of the latest mail milestone in Microsoft Unified Communications space, I urge those who are interested to know more about Exchange Server 2010 to visit the Microsoft Exchange 2010 homepage and download a 360-day trial to evaluate the server.
