Hot on the heels of the 5 Windows Phone-specific style guides we posted last week, we are now making 38 updated and expanded international style guides available for download.
International Style guides provide general Microsoft guidelines for style, tone, orthography and other language topics. They are essential tools to help you localize, translate and author content when developing applications that run under Microsoft platforms such as Windows or Exchange or integrate with products like Office, Dynamics, Visual Studio, SQL Server etc. International style guides tell you how to “speak to” the user when addressing them in your application, web content or Help topic.
Send us your feedback
If you find inconsistencies, errors or just think we are choosing the wrong style or tone for your language, you can submit feedback on our feedback page on the Microsoft Language Portal - or just add a comment to this post.
Here’s the list of updated languages – also available from the Microsoft Language Portal Style Guide download page. An additional 50+ languages from the Local Language Program will be posted in the next couple of weeks.
Ukrainian Style Guide contains some errors in description of the interchange rules. Preposition "у" is not used before ALL the words that start with 2+ consonants but only if these 2+ consonants are хв-, льв- etc. Also rule about preposition "з" contains wrong exceptions. MS Style Guide says: "Before the words that start with a single consonant (except з, с, ш) if the previous word ends with vowel." But Pravopys (Spelling and Grammar Book) by Ukrainian Academy of Science says only "except с, ш", not "з".
Thanks a lot for the feedback, George. We'll look into this one.....
The link for Serbian style guide on this page directs to the Cyrillic version, while the Style Guide download page links to the Latin one. Please make them both available on the Style Guide download page.
Thanks Slavko, Fixed now!
