Microsoft Office 2010 just became available to another approx. 140 million native speakers with the release of the Language Interface Packs for Marathi (70 million native speakers plus about 20 million second language speakers), Konkani (4 million native speakers), and Gujarati (46 million native speakers).

A Language Interface Pack allows you to change the user interface in the following Office 2010 applications: Excel, OneNote, InfoPath, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word. The pack includes a spell checker and is available for both 32-bit and 64-bit systems.

  • Marathi is mainly spoken in the Indian state of Maharashtra, where it is official language, and to a lesser extent in the neighboring states. In fact, Maharashtra was formed in 1960 when the former Bombay state was split up into the linguistic areas of Marathi and Gujarati. Marathi. Also known as Maharashtri, Maharathi, Malhatee or Marthi, the language derives its grammar and syntax from Sanskrit and is therefore one of the Indo-Aryan languages. With its about 90 million speakers it is comparable in rank with languages like Korean or Vietnamese.
  • Konkani is spoken widely in the Konkan region consisting of Goa (where it is official language), the southern coastal strip of Maharashtra, coastal Karnataka and Kerala - basically all along the southwestern coast of India. The Konkani community is fragmented due to a tumultuous history, and therefore each region has a distinctive dialect and pronunciation style.
  • Gujarati is the official language of the Indian state of Gujarat and spoken by the majority of people there. It is also spoken by migrant communities all over the world. Gujarati was influenced by Persian during the five centuries of the rule of the Sultans not only in vocabulary but even in structure. And did you know that Gujarati was the mother tongue of both the "father of India", Gandhi, and the "father of Pakistan", Jinnah?

All three languages are already available for Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 9:
