T-Mobile Today Joins Growing List of Wireless Carriers Offering Windows 7 Netbooks

Today at CTIA Wireless 2010, T-Mobile announced plans to offer their U.S. customers T-Mobile's first netbook - the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 with T-Mobile webConnect netbook. The netbook will come pre-loaded with the Windows 7 operating system and now available nationwide online at https://www.t-mobile.com/ and in select T-Mobile retail locations.

We are thrilled that T-Mobile has joined our growing list of over 60 telecommunication service providers worldwide (e.g. AT&T and Verizon Wireless in the U.S, Vodafone and Telefonica internationally, and others.) who are shipping Windows 7 mobile PCs since the launch of Windows 7 in October 2009 - and we expect that number to grow throughout the remainder of the year.

Worldwide, sales of PCs via telcos now account for about 14% of all netbook sales, according to data from analyst firm IDC. This trend, demonstrates that consumers are demanding Windows 7 powered mobile PCs bundled with mobile broadband wireless data plans, and also shows the telcos' increasing success in becoming a one stop shop for a mobile computing experience.

Telcos are key partners for Microsoft in growing our PC market share. Windows 7 has been fundamental to transforming mobile computing as it addresses many areas our telco partners and their subscribers care about. For example, it ensures better compatibility between applications and online services; offers an improved user interface that simplifies everyday tasks and faster boot-up and shut-down times; touts better power management for enhanced battery life; includes enhanced media capabilities; and increases reliability, stability and security.
