Somewhere between the physical and the virtual
More announcements ...
One of our internal teams who are doing a lot with Opalis internally here at Microsoft ran and recorded a webcast, and this recording is now available for viewing and download.
I want to thank the MPSD team for doing this! They have showcased their use scenarios leveraged so far, and I know there is a lot more planned, including a move to Orchestrator!
You can view and download the Live meeting here.

Hi everyone
The Orchestrator 2012 Beta Community Evaluation Program (CEP) has been building steadily over the last few weeks, and we are now well over 500 participants! We have the foundations for a very strong technical community here, and it has been great to see the community asking, and answering questions about Orchestrator in the forums.
The Orchestrator Beta download has been live for 10 days now, and the download stats are amazing. It really is great to see the level of enthusiasm around the solution sets, and I know we have an exciting few months coming up as we release updated Integration Packs and build towards the Release Candidate which will have additional features and functionality.
I encourage you to participate in the CEP, go sign up now and be part of the community, and I shall watch with interest how this grows!
Hi everyone, for those of you that do not know I am moving on and leaving my role in System Center as a Sr Technical Product Manager for Configuration Manager.
My 10 years in Microsoft have been absolutely amazing, first in the UK as an MCS Consultant, and a Windows Client Specialist. Then, for 5 years in Redmond where I have had the privilege of working with the System Center team as a Sr TPM. I found my days to be exciting, fun, challenging, and surrounded by some of the smartest people in the world. The bar is tremendously high in Microsoft, and the ConfigMgr team have exemplified those standards with consistently shipping high quality products on time. There are too many people to thank, and I would rather not say goodbye, but merely thank you, and lets keep in touch.
I am not going far. I am joining a Partner who are members of the System Center Alliance, and I will remain in the Redmond area. I will continue to blog at this new site, as well as through my new company’s resources. I am available on all the social channels (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter), and email – and I will be attending all of the same conferences, just with a different shirt on .
This blog will continue in some very capable hands, and I look forward to following it regularly moving forward.
Kind regards
Jeff Wettlaufer Sr Technical Product Manager System Center, Management and Security Division
A common question we get is “Do you have an Integration Pack for <insert a product/solution here>?” Charles even wrote a blog post on this back in the Opalis days!
I wanted to ensure that everyone understood the powerful activities that come Out of the Box with Orchestrator, and all the incredible runbooks you can build without a single Integration Pack!
These activities are called the Standard Activities and are fully documented in the Orchestrator TechNet Library. There are 73 of these activities provided as part of the base install. Straight from the install, you can create runbooks with these activities, and very effective and powerful runbooks.
I have written up a summary of all the activities and what they do over on the Orchestrator Blog, including how the Integration Packs build on the base installation of Orchestrator.
So what are you waiting for? Go download the Orchestrator 2012 Beta and get going!
And don’t forget to join the Orchestrator Evaluation Program, we have the first topic this week with the Product Team, so sign up and join the community! All the call details are in the CEP portal, including an ICS file for the Lync calls.
I look forward to talking with you.
