Thanks for this post! This saved my rear. I'm deploying WSUS in the lab to test it as an alternative to patching with Altiris Notification Server 7, which (like version 6), is a huge kludge for patching.

I was using the FQDN for my WSUS server in my GPO. Changing from the FQDN to just the hostname fixed my problem. I ran gpupdate /force on each WSUS client and they showed up in the WSUS console within a few seconds (after refreshing).
