Tell us about your experience with Windows 8 and developing a Windows Store app
My experience with Windows 8 and developing a Windows 8 app has been really exciting. I never thought I will go so far in the field of developing apps as I am right now. I think Microsoft has changed my life as it has given me a very big stage to create apps and showcase it to the whole world.
What inspired you to start developing? What age were you when you started?
My dad bought an Android phone and he told me that he didn’t like the calculator at all. He did not find it comfortable to use. After that he told me that I should try making a calculator app. Then my sister and mom also inspired me to make apps. So I started making apps for Windows phone as I had experience in c# as I had made several desktop apps for Intel app up. I started developing at the age of 13.
Please tell us a bit about the apps you’ve built.
I have built a scientific calculator app called Calculator+. It is a very simple user interface and it has already gotten more than 350 downloads. The next app I built was a combination of calculators. It is called Calculator Hub. It has six calculators in one place, so that people do not have to download various calculators for different purposes. There were six different types: temperature conversion, BMI, scientific, age, simple interest, and compound Interest calculators. It is a very innovative app as there was no such concept before in the store. I think this is the first app to feature such a thing.
Can you tell us about things you’ve had to overcome while developing? What did you learn from it?
I’ve had to overcome a lot of things while developing apps. It was not an easy experience, and I was not lucky enough to go to a center where they taught programming. I learned c# on my own. While making my first app I remember it was a very difficult task. I faced a lot of problems as I got a lot of errors while debugging. But then I realized that that I needed to learn more. I needed to read more books about c#. I would like to tell one thing to everyone: when you want to learn something, you should do it with a lot of hard work and dedication. If you don’t have these two things I don’t think you will be able to do anything. There is no shortcut.
Do you have any advice for other students?
As I said earlier, students need to work really hard towards their goal. If you want to achieve anything you have to dedicate all your time into that. What I mean by that is not spending all your time in front of a computer and not studying, but whenever you are free, open the laptop and be free to sit down and start writing code. Who knows, you maybe the next youngest app developer.
Do you participate in any other Microsoft programs (Imagine Cup, Microsoft Student Partner program, DreamSpark, etc.)?
Yes, I have a DreamSpark account, which has helped me a lot. They gave me a free developer license and Visual Studio. I would like to thank Microsoft for that.
How can students contact you?
