As James eloquently described in his post titled "Sign-up for freedom of choice" we're looking for your support for OpenXML to be adopted as an ISO standard. It's an open XML based standard used to describe Office documents.
As is often the case there's an alternative standard, Open Document Format (ODF) in this case - it too is XML based. ODF has already been ratified by ISO. We're keen for users to be able to choose either format.

Steve, you'll have to forgive my cynicism, but if ISO ratifies OpenXML the fact that there are choices will be irrelevant. Microsoft controls the desktop for Office applications so ODF will always be a fringe option. Microsoft most likely won't support ODF (forgive if this is no longer true as I don't follow the industry) so in reality there will only be one choice.
