Click here to register for a free security event taking place in our Reading office in the UK. We'll take a look at how to adopt the principles of least privilege and thereby reduce the impact of malware including worms viruses and root kits. Our focus will be how to configure Windows XP for use by both general users and administrators to enable them to use privilege less of the time.

We'll also take a look at what the future holds in store in the form of Windows Vista. It's been difficult to keep up with the various names that have been used to describe least privilege - all of the following have been used by the Windows Vista team:

  • Flexible Account Control Technologies
  • Least User-privileges Access (LUA)
  • Least User Account (LUA)
  • User Account Protection (UAP)
  • User Account Control (UAC)

User Account Control (UAC) being the winner so far and hopefully this will be the final name!

This event will provide you with practical demonstrations of how to reduce your security exposure. In common with other UK TechNet evening events there will be an intermission including free beer and pizza :-)

  • Cheers Steve, I would have been interested, but that's not enough advance notice for me. Is there somewhere that we can see upcoming training events at the Reading campus? I've been to a few events there but the training sessions are never well advertised and I usually get to hear about them after they have taken place.

  • Kieran> Sorry to hear that you couldn't make it. All events are posted to http://www.microsoft.com/uk/events
We aim to give you as much notice as possible - generally at least a month
