On TechEd Atlanta the SharePoint and Office 2010 Service pack 1 have been announced!

For SharePoint customers planning to deploy Service Pack 1, it is also recommended to install the June 2011 Cumulative Update for SharePoint when it becomes available soon.

Don’t forget to run the PSConfig Wizard anyway, even after reboot just to ensure that all updates has been applied completely and successful!
As usual, you can use the command line on each server in Farm: “psconfig –cmd upgrade –inplace b2b -wait”

For clarification:

If you are currently on any Build stage prior or equal April 2011 CU, please perform the update as follows:

Install the SP1 packages for SharePoint Foundation on all Servers in Farm
Install the according Language packs (if applicable) on all Servers in Farm
Install the SP1 packages for SharePoint Server on all Servers in Farm
Install the according Language packs (if applicable) on all Servers in Farm for each languge installed!
Install the Office Web Apps SP1 (if applicable)
Install the SharePoint Foundation June 2011 CU on top on on all Servers in Farm
Install the SharePoint Server June 2011 CU on top on on all Servers in Farm

The SharePoint 2010 Products Configuration Wizard or "psconfig –cmd upgrade –inplace b2b -wait” should be run once on every server in the farm following the final update installed.

Q:
Is it true that installing only the server packages would be sufficient as they contain the foundation packages anyway?

A:
We recommend installing the SharePoint Foundation 2010 packages followed by the SharePoint Server 2010 packages to ensure all binaries are properly updated as a best practice;
however, Server packages will include the Foundation package so they could be installed independently.
The June CU does not include all of the files included in Service Pack 1 so should be installed following Service Pack 1. In order to ensure everything is up to date, you will need to install both packages.

Important [Taken from the "Updates for SharePoint 2010 Products" blog]

After you install Service Pack 1 you must run the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard (PSConfigUI.exe) to run upgrade which will update the farm to the latest version. This step is required in order to have full SharePoint functionality. If you do not run PSConfigUI the farm will run, but with reduced capacity. For example, Search will not be able to index content.
You must restart the User Profile Synchronization service after installing Service Pack 1. For more information see the Start the User Profile Synchronization service section in the Configure profile synchronization article in the library.

Known Issues after installing SP1

After installing SP1, if you modify a grouped view (or create a new grouped view) a javascript error occurs, pointing to the core.js :

Message: 'g_ExpGroupXSLTQueue' is undefined

Line: 1

Char: 31898

Code: 0

Result:

You cannot view records anymore.

When you change back the display language to "english", the views are working as expected.

Resolution

This regression has been fixed in the August 2011 CU

Ecerpt from the Office Sustained Engineering and Release Team of the first Service Pack:

SP1 releases for both Office client suites and SharePoint server products will be made available. All language versions of SP1 will release simultaneously. Initially, Service Pack 1 will be offered as a manual download from the Download Center and from Microsoft Update, and no sooner than 90 days after release, will be made available as an Automatic Update.

SP1 will include many interesting changes. Across the client suites and server products, SP1 offers a sprinkling of improvements to make a strong 2010 release wave even stronger.
