The Server-Packages that fix the regression discovered in the October CU will be now available!

If you have applied the regressed Oct CU Server-Package(s), you’ll only need to apply this new replacement package(s) and everything will be functioning as normal.

If you have not applied the regressed Oct CU Server-Package(s), or installed it after the fixed packages released, you need only put on the new replacement Server-Package(s).
The MS Foundation packages were not affected and therefore no need to reinstall them too.

The new Build Number will be now shown as 14.0.5128.5003 which shows the "fixed" build version. (The broken build is 14.0.5128.5000)

Critical Information about the SharePoint Server 2010 October Cumulative Update!

As discovered recently, we found some regressions with the October Cumulative Update packages. The packages makes some changes and updates to the user profile database. Unfortunately there are certain situations where this update does not complete as expected and leaves the update in an inconsistent state.  This causes issues with several SharePoint features that use the User Profile Application such as MySites, People and Expertise Search & Ratings.

No details are currently available but the Product team is working on it.  An update will be send out to you as soon as we have more news.   is now available!

The specific packages in question have been pulled from the hot fix server. If you have a copy of these package but have not installed yet, do not install them now!.

Office 2010 specific packages released with October CU that are affected:

SPS Server Package 2394320 contains SharePoint Foundation - impacted
Project Server Package 2394322 contains SharePoint Foundation - impacted

Packages NOT Affected!

The following Cumulate Update packages are NOT affected by this issue and are safe to install;

This issue does not impact the 2007 versions of these products.

As usual the October cumulative update for SharePoint Server and SharePoint Foundation 2010 has been published!

Don’t forget the “Abbreviations for our SharePoint 2010 products” to check before getting fully confused ;-)

Project Server 2010:
Since August 2010, the Project server package also contains SharePoint Server 2010 (SPS2010) and installing this Full package should update all components in one step1

After installing the packages, you may be prompted for a reboot of your Server! Please don’t forget to run the PSConfig Wizard anyway, even after reboot just to ensure that all updates has been applied completely and successful!

As usual, you can use the command line on each server in Farm:   “psconfig –cmd upgrade –inplace b2b -wait”
