Are you still using WSS 3.0 or MOSS 2007?

In case that the answer to the question above is "Yes" - be aware that mainstream support for this product will end at October 9th, 2012 (see on the official support lifecycle page).
Extended support will be provided till October 10th, 2017.

That means that no new hotfixes will be created for WSS 3.0 or MOSS 2007 after October 9th, 2012 - except security fixes.

For for details about the difference between Mainstream support and Extended Support see the Microsoft Support Lifecycle Policy FAQ.

  • Thanks for sharing Stefan. Some of my customers will need to know the info,

  • Hi Stefan, with "security fixes" do you mean CU?

    Thanks

    Riccardo

  • info like this should really be published on the SharePoint Team Blog so it reaches the masses...

  • Hi Riccardo,

CUs are regular Hotfixes and not security fixes. CUs contain all type of fixes including security fixes.

After end of Mainstream Support there will not be any more CUs.

    Cheers,

    Stefan

  • Thanks Stefan. Its really great info.

  • Does this apply for users who run SP2 or Sp3 as well ?

  • Hi Zack,

it ONLY applies to users who are on SP2 or SP3.

Older patch levels are no longer unsupported.

    Cheers,

    Stefan
