Forrester Research, Inc. has positioned Microsoft as a Leader in The Forrester Wave™: Enterprise Business Intelligence Platforms, Q4 2013. Microsoft Windows Server 2012 with Hyper-V and System Center 2012 were designed to enable customers to create and manage highly scalable, highly virtualized environments on premises, in the Windows Azure cloud, with a hosted solution provider, or in a hybrid cloud infrastructure.
Several prior research studies have looked at the benefits of any point investment in big data and business analytics over no investment at all. Recognizing that a growing number of organizations have already invested in a base level of business analytics technology and capabilities, IDC set out to identify the difference between those organization and others that have invested in using more diverse data types and source, more diverse analytical tools and methods, and in distributing information to more diverse audience of end user types – at the right time.
Once again, Gartner has positioned Microsoft in the Leaders Quadrant in the 2014 Magic Quadrant for Business Intelligence and Analytics Platforms, based on its completeness of vision and ability to execute in the BI and analytics market. Gartner forecasts that the BI platform market will have grown into a $14.1 billion market in 2013.
Microsoft Releases Power BI for Office 365
Today, Microsoft announced the general availability of Power BI for Office 365, a cloud-based business intelligence service that gives people a powerful new way to work with data in the tools they use every day, Excel and Office 365.
This month Microsoft updated the previews of Power BI for Office 365 and Power Query for Excel. These updates provide customers with more ways to explore, analyze and find insights on their data.
Microsoft Positioned as Leader in The Forrester Wave™
Forrester Research, Inc. has positioned Microsoft as a Leader in The Forrester Wave™: Enterprise Data Warehouse, Q4 2013. Forrester notes that leaders “offer mature, high-performance, scalable, secure, flexible, and robust EDW solutions that often combine an analytics-optimized DW with query optimization, parallel loading, deep data compression, and mixed-workload management features.”
Hot on the heels of February’s release of Power BI for Office 365 - today, Microsoft released a public preview of Power BI connectivity to SAP BusinessObjects. The joint BI interoperability solution was announced and demoed during a session at the SharePoint Conference by Eron Kelly, General Manager of SQL Server Marketing at Microsoft and Jayne Landry, Global Vice President and General Manager of BI for SAP.
To help organizations deliver on the demands of a modern and mobile workforce, Microsoft today announced updates to its Windows Intune service that will roll out to subscribers next week. The updates accrue to Microsoft’s overall mobile device management strategy, which is centered around people – enabling them to get access to applications and data on the devices they choose, responsibly.
Samsung announced that Samsung KNOX will now support Microsoft’s Workplace Join to Active Directory and the Windows Intune cloud-based mobile device management solution in addition to Cloud Printing solution which uses both the Microsoft Windows Azure cloud platform and Microsoft SharePoint.

Windows Azure renamed to Microsoft Azure
On March 25, 2014, Microsoft announced that Windows Azure will be renamed to Microsoft Azure, effective April 3, 2014.
Continuing to deliver on its commitment to offering the best possible experience for developers, Microsoft announced another wave of enhancements to Windows Azure this morning. These updates include:
Leading cloud computing, big data and IT solutions provider EMC announced its participation in the Microsoft Cloud OS Accelerate program. This collaboration enables joint customers and partners to accelerate the deployment of Windows Server 2012 R2 with Hyper-V virtualization on an EMC infrastructure to improve performance, increase efficiency and simplify management within the private cloud.
Microsoft Joins the Open Compute Project
On Tuesday, Bill Laing, Corporate Vice President, Cloud and Enterprise announced that Microsoft is joining the Open Compute Project – a community started by Facebook that is dedicated to the open collaboration of engineering efficient hardware for cloud and high scale computing. As part of the announcement, Microsoft said it’s contributing the Microsoft cloud server specification and its datacenter blueprints that power Windows Azure, Office 365 and Bing. As part of this effort, Microsoft Open Tech also open sourced related management software.
AzureDevs Awards $100,000 to Black Girls Code
As part of its effort to change the world through code, AzureDevs announced at Build 2013 that it would award $100,000 in grants to technology education nonprofits selected by the community. Over the months, tens of thousands of votes came in, and yesterday AzureDevs announced Black Girls Code (BGC) as the first place winner.
Cloud computing is as big a transformation, and opportunity, as the technology industry has ever seen. Microsoft Expands Windows Azure Service to Brazil
Microsoft announced the expansion of Windows Azure services to Brazil, signifying Microsoft’s continued commitment to growing the global presence of Windows Azure and providing customers with local cloud service options.
Today, Microsoft announced the Cloud OS Network, a worldwide consortium of more than 25 cloud service providers delivering services built on the Microsoft Cloud Platform: Windows Server with Hyper-V, System Center and the Windows Azure Pack.
Today, Microsoft CVP Quentin Clark delivered the keynote to the Professional Association for SQL Server (PASS) Summit 2013 in Charlotte, North Carolina where he announced the availability of SQL Server 2014 CTP2, a near feature complete release which can be downloaded here.
