Today, Microsoft CVP Quentin Clark delivered the keynote to the Professional Association for SQL Server (PASS) Summit 2013 in Charlotte, North Carolina where he announced the availability of SQL Server 2014 CTP2, a near feature complete release which can be downloaded here. He also discussed how Microsoft is helping customers push the boundaries of their business by delivering a data platform that can tackle all types of data and accelerate time to insight by enabling infrastructure to run at the speed of business. Last week SUSE announced the general availability of SUSE Cloud 2.0, an enterprise-ready OpenStack distribution for building private clouds. This release includes full support for Microsoft Hyper-V, helping customers set up mixed hypervisor private clouds that can be rapidly deployed and easily managed.
Yesterday Microsoft announced the general availability of Windows Azure Multi-Factor Authentication (previously Active Authentication), which helps safeguard access to both data and applications by strengthening traditional sign-in methods, while still providing the simple sign-in that users want. The service supports cloud applications that use Windows Azure Active Directory, as well as on-premises using the Multi-Factor Authentication Server. Today Microsoft announced the addition of significant new features to the Power BI for Office 365 preview, a self-service business intelligence (BI) service delivered through Office 365 first introduced at the Worldwide Partner Conference in July.
Ubuntu users can now use Juju, an open source project, with its intuitive graphical user interface to design and deploy sophisticated application infrastructure instantly into Windows Azure. With Juju support on Windows Azure, users can deploy more than 100 services (Juju Charms) onto Windows Azure Ubuntu instances. The latest Ubuntu Certified images for all supported Ubuntu releases are currently available on Windows Azure, delivered with fast, highly available local archives to keep users up to date.
