Economic Impact of Windows Server 2012: 3-year ROI of 195% and payback in just 6 months
Since the September launch of Windows Server 2012, there have been over 1 million evaluation downloads and the product was a key contributor to strong Q2 earnings. We’ve heard from many customers about how Windows Server 2012 is helping them transform their datacenters – a cornerstone of the Microsoft Cloud OS vision. A new commissioned study conducted by Forrester Consulting explores the economic impact and potential return on investment of Windows Server 2012. The study quantifies the value a “composite” company of 14,000 employees would realize with the product, based on interviews and surveys with over two dozen customers.
The study estimates that the 3-year risk adjusted ROI of Windows Server 2012 for this composite company is 195%, and that the payback period for investing in the technology is just 6 months. Additional benefits noted in the study include increased productivity (both for server admins and end users), improved storage efficiency, improved app and web development and increased flexibility to support a private cloud.

Northeast VMware User Group Expands to Include Hyper-V
This week on TechNet Radio, Chris Harney, Director of Virtualization Technology Users Group (VTUG), discusses how the group recently expanded their scope beyond VMware technologies. VTUG now includes Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V in their information, education and events, such as their recent Winter Warmer event in Massachusetts, attended by 1500 people. The expansion was triggered by VTUG users’ demand to learn about virtualization technology and platforms beyond VMware.

Forefront Identity Manager (FIM) 2010 R2 SP1 Available Now!
Today Microsoft announced the availability of Forefront Identity Manager (FIM) 2010 R2 Server Pack 1 (SP1). This new release continues to help organizations overcome the growing complexity of managing identity and permissions across heterogeneous systems.
With this new release, the BHOLD, FIM Sync, FIM Service, FIM Portal, and FIM Certificate Management components of FIM 2020 R2 SP1 now support Windows Server 2012, SQL Server 2012, SharePoint Foundation 2013 and Visual Studio 2012. Additional improvements include:

Change Agents Usher in a New Era of Cloud Computing
Microsoft, in close partnership with Forrester Research, released a paper looking at the new forces of change within organizations that are using cloud computing to launch their own business projects and drive innovation. The paper examines the reasons behind these cloud computing initiatives and found a new breed of tech savvy employees outside of IT are deploying cloud. Forrester describes these individuals as ‘Change Agents’. The report features in depth interviews with 22 Change Agents from large UK organizations (1,000+ employees) across all business divisions that have used cloud to innovate and improve business processes.

New Microsoft HPC Pack Website Now Live

Microsoft and NORAD = Santa Success!
Santa delivered more than 7 billion gifts to homes around the world this Christmas, and thanks to NORAD’s Santa Tracker, powered by Microsoft technology, nearly 23 million people from 234 different countries were able to follow St. Nick’s journey on their PCs, tablets or smartphones. The Santa Tracker website, which was built on Windows Azure, experienced 16,000 hits a day for most of December and increased to 90 million page views on Christmas Eve. When the demand spiked, Windows Azure and Microsoft’s cloud resources we’re ready, demonstrating the flexibility, reliability and scalability of cloud computing.
