With Microsoft announcing the release of the Community Technology Preview 1 (CTP1) of SQL Server 2011 (Code name: Denali) I felt it was appropriate to mention something that was discussed in the Deploying Kronos Workforce Management Solutions using SQL Server 2008 webcast and that is upgrades.

SQL Server 2008 has many additional features that provide more advantages to Workforce Central implementations.

Features like:

  • Data compression
  • Bbackup compression
  • Transparent data encryption (TDE)
  • Policy Based Management
  • Resource Governor
  • Change Data Capture

SQL Server 2008 provides the highest performance, scalability, reliability, and security as compared to competitor platforms and it scales to some of the world’s largest workloads, as evidenced by strong industry standard benchmark results.

SQL Server 2008 builds on the advancements in SQL Server 2005. It contains many new features and enhanced functionality that fully optimize the power of the underlying database for large‐scale workloads while keeping the code independent. In addition, SQL Server 2008 security features meet stringent Workforce Central requirements for protecting data and network resources.

Its customizable security architecture enables full event handling, secure storage, TDE, consolidated enterprise encryption, and security key management.
