Update: April 26, 2013 - Exchange Connector 3.0 RTM has been released now and is officially supported:
At long last the Exchange Connector 3.0 RC is released! I've made quite a few improvements in this release.
The Exchange Connector 3.0 release is compatible only with System Center 2012 - Service Manager
Feature Summary: . It contains bug fixes and still has the original set of features including:
New features include:
Please keep in mind that the Exchange connector is still not officially supported by Microsoft.
This RC release has been tested by TAP customers and is currently used in production by our internal operations team MPSD. You may still encounter some bugs. If you have any questions or issues with it please post them on the forums. I'll monitor the threads and see what I can do to help.
We do plan to include the Exchange connector out of the box in the next version of System Center so that it will be fully supported by Microsoft.
You can get the new Exchange Connector 3.0 RC version here:
Update May 9th 2012: Looks like the location to download the Exchange web service client library assembly from might have moved. You can get it from here:
Please double check the criteria XML in your management pack as compared to the instructions provided in the doc.
@ Travis Wright
Just wondering if you can make incidents opened via the exchange connector use a specific template? I would like all emails coming in through the connector to show "E-Mail" under the source - currently it shows "Portal"
Yes, when you configure the Exchange connector you choose which work item template to create new work items from. Just make sure you choose an incident template with the Source = Email.
Thanks, I eventually figured it out haha
Another question. Most Service Desk applications that use email response have something that "cuts" the response down. For example:
REPLY ABOVE THIS LINE
Or something like that - is it possible to acheive this with SCSM & the Exchange Connector?
There is a configuration option on the EC that will put just the most recent reply into the action log instead of the whole message. That is determined by the 'From:' keyword demarking one mail from another.
That's the best EC can do for now.
Thanks Travis :)
Also, I have made a post on the forums (social.technet.microsoft.com/.../ec1ed8e9-f2d9-43d2-8ab8-0367387c39a5) I am experiencing a very serious issue - could you perhaps assist?
try to remove the, Extention Incident -- Message is empty from the Change From in your Incident event worflow configuration. This should allow you to send all email required by incident.
Any update as to when the connector will be RTM? If it is going to be more then a month then I will need to try to persuade management to allow me to install the RC in the interim
It's likely that a RTM release will just be a rename of the RC build. There might be one or two minor fixes.
Thanks for the update, my issue is that I am not allowed to install RC software hence why I am waiting for the final release. If I know roughly how long until the final release comes out I can then (if it will be a while) push to be allowed to install the RC version instead
It is actually possible to update (approve, complete or cancel) a workitem assigned to a group, sending an email from a member of the group? (or allow everyone to update the workitem?)
@Donato - Sorry, no not right now.
Found a possible bug. If the connector is connected to mailbox and updating when a new message comes in, the new message does not get picked up. After subsequent connections by connector that message still does not get picked up and added as a new ticket in SCSM. Other email in the same mailbox does get picked up properly. Running connector in a SCSM 2012 environment with Exchange 2010 mailserver.
When an analyst adds a comment to the action log via e-mail, it is marking it as private. How do we change that behavior?
@ QS-Bhavin -
To do that would require a code change to the exchange connector. At some point maybe we'll make that a configurable option.
