If you are a sysadmin,  you probably spend more time at the command line than the average user.  If you have been looking for a handy reference as to the commands and syntax you can use, the Windows Command Reference will come in handy.  Commands are listed alphabetically or by server role (in Windows Server 2008).

The Windows command-line tools are used to perform various tasks related to Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Server 2008.You can use the command reference to familiarize yourself with new and enhanced command-line tools, to learn about the command shell, and to automate command-line tasks by using batch files or scripting tools.

  • Aaaaah... to come full circle.  Microsoft's OSs started at the command line, went GUI, and you can

  • This reference is quite useful for beginners to start with. But if you are looking for command line solutions for advanced operations like (disable windows updates from command line, enabling remote desktop etc.), I've added some tips I've learnt here. www.windows-commandline.com.  I hope the link would benefit the users visiting this page.
