I just installed my Windows 2012 server with SCVMM 2012 SP1. We have simple networking requirements and I'm just using the default logical network created at install time. Unfortunately, I only had 1 NIC card out of the 4 on my server configured at that time. What would the easiest way be to go about adding 1 or more NIC's to my logical network? I only have 3 VM's, and just want to team the NIC's together easily.

Thanks,

Pete

I was able to test it with host (Provider Addresses) connected on access ports on the switch, but when im using teamed adapters connected on 802.1q trunk ports NVGRE seems not working. I really believe that Microsoft does not develop it in the way NVGRE to work only on access ports, but how? What is different in the configuration? What if im using 2 teamed converged adapters for cluster, management and tenant network?

I am Stuck at getting to implement a Gateway for my Isolated Virtual network to access the Internet.

Configuration :Hyper-v Physical Host (That's the only host I have, its a home setup)

====================================

Router / DG: 192.168.0.1

Physical NIC IP (Production) : 192.168.0.2

Physical NIC (Network Virtualization) : 192.168.0.3

Virtual DC: 192.168.0.4

Virtual SCVMM 2012 SP1: 192.168.0.5

Virtual Gateway VM: 192.168.0.6 (I have created this, just incase if there is any configuration that will allow me to use this as a gateway machine for my below Customer address)

Network Virtualization (NVGRE)

======================

Provider Address: 192.168.0.7/24

Customer Address Blue: 10.0.0.0/24

Customer Address Red: 10.0.0.0/24

I want to setup a gateway so my Blue and Red VM's can access the internet when they use Network virtualization. I am not sure how to set this up. Please assist me with what steps I need to carry out in order for this to work.

Thanking you in advance for any assistance.

Cheers !

I have just configured and had the same problem as Pat (VOSE's on different nodes unable to communicate), problem was that I had assigned static IPs manually to the VOSE's - even though from the same pool I didn't configure the Gateway address (which is the logical switch), so communication failed. Now using DHCP and working fine now gateway populated!

Next job is to figure out how we use an external firewall as the default gateway (for internet access etc from the VOSE's)... not sure yet how this is going to work though?

It took less than half an hour to setup NW using hyper-v APIs. After reading through number of blogs, MSDN articles, I am still not able to get my 2 node cluster up and running with SCVMM SP1 network virtualization tools. Too many new terminologies are introduced, too many old terminologies are carried forward. I did make few mistakes in the configuration, but troubleshooting, finding out the root cause with SCVMM was not that easy.

When I have multiple IP Pools for a Subnet - I cannot choose the IP pool that a VM is assigned to.

I set the Subnet after provisioning, but no way to set the specific IP Pool that I want the VM to get its IP from.

I want to use Virtual Networks - but I have one VM that is my AD / DNS server. I need to know his IP so I can set that in the DNS of the IP Pool so the machines can find him via DNS as they come out of mini-setup.

I have the same use case with Azure and I really have the exact same problems.

I have to provision, query, change settings, before I can move forward.

Because I can only target a Subnet. But I can define umpteen IP pools that don't have to align with the subnet definitions. Why isn't the Subnet just the definition of the scope of address assignment?

Ugh.

I still want to choose the target subnet on provision.

Why can't I select the target Subnet on provisioning.

Why must I get a random one and then modify it after provisioning.

Also, what is the minimum size of a subnet? I have tried 1 IP and 8 IP subnets and they never show up in the available subnet list to attach the VM to.
