We were worried it might be missed.

It sounds like you addressed our issue and therefore we can stop creating a overly complicated PowerShell script regarding putting things into and taking them out of maintenance mode in SCOM for host virtual server maintennace. We were only going down this road because the SCVMM integration in 2008 R2 isn't very quick to update and we didn't want guest virtual servers going into and out of maintenance mode uncessarily.

Please pass our thanks on to all those involved regarding change the integration direction and speeding up the update process in general. We can't wait to replace our SCVMM 2008 R2 with SCVMM 2012!

Even after a host virtual server was put into maintenance mode in SCVMM and all of the guest virtual servers were moved to another host, SCOM was not updated with the new locations of the guests. As a result when the host virtual server was put into maintenance mode, all of the guests that used to be on that host were also put into maintenance mode.

We don't want the guest virtual servers to ever go into maintenance mode in SCOM just because the host virtual server did, because they should be already moved off to another host and still be fully monitored.

Does this new level of SCVMM 2012 integration help that situation at all? I.E. Does it provide more real-time updates to SCOM as to the location of the guest virtual servers, or perhaps putting the host virtual server into maintenance mode in SCVMM only puts the necessary components in SCOM in maintenance mode?

Great blog post BTW. Nice and to the point.
