I am testing in a virtual environment and planned to run forefront as the antivirus, but the client installer says the OS is not compatible, and the full installer states I need configuration manger 2007 blah blah. What is one to do for simple antivirus/antimalware on the new SBS 2011 versions? Either products don't install or you need to have an advanced IT degree to install something.

And yes there is an migration path to sbs standard.

The difference is, implace upgrade on one server is not possible, the migration has to be done with 2 servers, one source (with essentials) and one destination (the new server with standard).

Yes there is a technical upgrade path available from SBSe to SBSs. However we expect for companies that grow out of the 25 user limit to more migrate to Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard and keep their investment in cloud enabled services (such as Office 365).
