After you login to a Windows Small Business Server 2008 Remote Web Access from an external Windows 8 machine and attempt to connect to an internal client, you will get the following error:
--------------------------- VBScript: Remote Desktop Connection --------------------------- The wizard cannot configure Remote Desktop Connection settings. Make sure that the client version of Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) 6.0 or later is installed on this computer. --------------------------- OK ---------------------------
You will see this error even after installing the Microsoft RDP Client ActiveX control, and would not be able to connect to any internal machine via RWA.
The current workaround to get this working externally is to open Remote Web Access website in Compatibility View. You can accomplish this by following one of these methods.
a. Tap the ‘Alt’ key to view the Internet Explorer Tool bar. Click Tools and then Compatibility View Settings.
b. Click to Add the website name and click Close. Login to RWA website again.
Following either of the aforementioned methods would let you remote desktop to the SBS 2008 domain clients using RWA.
Is this because of KB2592687 and KB2594819? If so can you just fix those patches? Thanks Rusty
Rusty, it's not due to those updates.
I have similar problem, but with SBS 2011 standart and windows 8 external client.
I click connect throught RWA website, client promt for RD Gateway Server Credentials. After i wrote it, client is hanging on Initiating Remote Connection.
All works fine from Windows 7 client.
rfi - post in the forum and we'll help there. Blogs aren't great for working through issues.
I had this same issue on a Windows 8.1 client system and we still got the same error message after adding the site to the compatibility list. It turns out for 8.1 you may also need to add the site to the Security > Trusted Sites List
I done all the above. But still not working on my windows 10. Is any one can help?
Also having exact problem but on Windows 10. Help?
Upgraded to Windows 10, and having same issue. Cannot connect, edge no good, using I.E. I am presented with same error asking to make sure RDP 6.0 or greater is installed. After checking Compatibility Setting website is saved but no luck. PLEASE HELP,
LOGMEIN Isn't nearly as good especially with multiple monitors.
I realise this started an age ago... but it would be good to know what the current workarounds there may be given the problem still exists with I.E 11 on a Win 10 O/S aiming at SBS 2008
