Microsoft announced the releases of IIS Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Toolkit RTW and IIS URL Rewriter 2.0 RC – both extensions for IIS. If you are in Los Angeles attending PDC, please stop by the Internet Information Services booth at the Expo Pavilion to learn more about these two extensions and the Microsoft Web Platform. Also, on 11/18, we’ll have a special session on IIS SEO Toolkit –check the schedule here to learn the details.
The IIS SEO Toolkit helps Web developers, hosting providers, and Web server administrators to improve their Web site’s relevance in search results by recommending how to make the site content more search engine-friendly.
Optimizing the Web site for search engines could be a daunting task; but thanks to the IIS SEO Toolkit, IT personnel and developers alike have at their disposal a powerful set of tools that analyze Web sites, optimize their content, structure and URLs for search engines. The IIS SEO Toolkit makes it possible to discover common issues related to the content that could negatively affect the experience of those visiting the site. The existence of pre-built reports make it easy to analyze the site compliance with pre-established parameters such as loading speeds of Web pages.
The Sitemaps and site Indexes enable Web site owners to manage the sitemap files and indexes ensuring that the most important URLs are listed and ranked in the sitemap.xml; while the Robots Exclusion modules controls the indexing of specified URLs by disallowing search engine crawlers form accessing them. Users have the choice to view their sites using a physical or a logical view. By using a graphical interface, users benefit from having a clear understanding of what sections of the Web site are disallowed.
A very interesting characteristic of the IIS SEO Toolkit, is that it can analyze any Web site, not only those running on the local machine.
IIS URL Rewriter 2.0 adds support for outbound response rewriting and enables Web administrators to create powerful rules to implement URLs that are easier for users to remember and easier for search engines to find. IIS URL Rewriter 2.0 helps to easily define rules that match URLs or HTTP headers to generate more friendly and consistent URLs, protect content and assets from unauthorized linking and scanning, and integrate with existing IIS features to improve management, performance, and troubleshooting.
