Thanks to Jorge Ray (sorry Ray!) for this great blog post - http://blogs.technet.com/b/raymond_ris/archive/2013/04/04/cannot-open-or-create-word-documents-in-sharepoint-2013-with-office-2010-and-project-2013.aspx explaining how, after loading Project 2013 this can make your SharePoint libraries default to the 2013 versions of the protocol handlers.  You might get a Url such as ms-word:nft|u|http://o15psvr:8080/Shared Documents/Forms/template.dotx|s|http://o15psvr:8080/Shared Documents for Word or ms-excel:ofv|u|http://sharePointDocumentlibraryURL for Excel.

The fix is easy – go take a look at Ray’s blog.

  • Thank you Ray for blogging and Brian for sharing. This certainly helped resolving the issue. Very useful!

  • it is a client based solution may be, there would be the server based solution. i hope someone can share a good solution.

  • I was struggling in this error for many days, and Finally I found the solution:

    Solution:

I have Lync 2013 installed in my machine along with MS Office 2010, so by defualt MS Office 2010 generate Office14 folder, and because Lync 2013 is installed also will generate Office15 folder.

So what I did is I uninstall Lync 2013 and then I repair MS Office 2010 and THE ISSUE SOLVED.

  • Hi can we sync MS project 2013 file with SharePoint 2010. If so what are the limitations?

  • What do I do if I have Office 2007 installed while using Sharepoint 2013?

  • I had the same issue with visio 2007 and office 2010, using sharepoint 2013. All I did was repair office 2010, rebooted the machine and it fixed the problem.
