Dr. Tom ShinderThe hits keep coming with the TechEd 2013 Architecture (ARC) track! This time I want to introduce you to Cloud and Datacenter Solutions HubJohn Morello. I’ve known John for several years and one thing I can tell you, this guy definitely knows his stuff! I had the unique opportunity of co-presenting a number of talks with John at TechEd in New Orleans a couple of years ago, and it was great fun.

We spoke to packed rooms about what DirectAccess could do, how it worked, and how you deploy a well-architected DirectAccess Solution. Both John and I have moved on from DirectAccess, but we’ve moved in similar directions – we’re both working with Microsoft cloud technologies and solutions.

ARC Track Twitter Army!

This year John will be presenting a very cool session named Patterns and Practices for the Hybrid World. This session is especially interesting to me since my team is working on a Reference Implementation document set for Hybrid IT in the enterprise. I’ll share more information with you about that in the next month or so, as we get closer to release. John’s talk on patterns and practices will certainly influence that work, as the information he’ll share comes from hard fought lessons he and his team has learned from the field.

John MorelloHere’s some information about John (it’s always nice to know something about someone who you’re going to spend an hour of your life with Smile).  John graduated Summa *** Laude from LSU and joined Microsoft as a new college hire in 2000.  He started out in Premier Support and then spent 5 years in Microsoft Consulting Services where he designed solutions for Fortune 500 corporations and governments around the world.

From 2006-2009, he was a Lead Program Manager in the Windows Server group where he helped ship Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 and managed a team focused on virtualization and security scenarios.

From 2009-2011, he was a Principal PM in the Azure group, working on Certificate Services and Rights Management Services for private clouds, Office 365, and Windows Azure.

In 2011, he returned to Services as the Lead Architect of the hybrid cloud consulting practice for the Americas.  He leads a team of consultants that help customers use infrastructure-as-a-service to solve real world problems.

John has written numerous articles for TechNet Magazine, contributed to several Microsoft Press books, and regularly speaks at TechEd and other conferences around the world. John lives in Louisiana with his wife Nicole and sons Bruce and Jake.  They love to run, scuba dive, and fish, and John also serves on the Board of Directors of the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana (www.crcl.org).

Presentation Title: Patterns and Practices for the Hybrid World (ATC-B211)

Presenter: John Morello

Duration: 75 mins

Format: Breakout session

Microsoft Services helps customers around the world build apps and services to connect to their employees, customers, and citizens. Increasingly, we're seeing these delivered through a hybrid model, leveraging capabilities from their own datacenters, from hosters, and from Windows Azure. This session provides an overview of the architectures we're seeing in the real world, why our customers are choosing these approaches, and how these models can be applied to lower cost and time to value, while providing better experiences for users, developers, and IT professionals. We look at patterns and practices we use to help customers build dynamic on-premises infrastructure with Microsoft System Center and Windows Server, how to connect that infrastructure to Windows Azure, and how successful IT organizations are repositioning themselves as service providers to their businesses.
