Imagine a world where 90% of all e-mails are either spam or infected with viruses. How bad it would be to only have 1 meaningful e-mail out of 10 e-mails sitting in inbox...

Scary huh? But it's actually the reality. As of April 2008, 89% of all e-mails are spam and 2% is infected with malicious software (a.k.a. malware). It means that 9 out of 10 disks in your Exchange server is used as garbage mail storage. 9 out of 10 GB of your Internet bandwidth is consumed by bulk posts that you don't care about.

So what you can do as an IT administrator? A) You can convince bad guys to be good guys and make them plant trees B) You can protect your infrastructure using Windows Essential Business Server that comes with integrated Exchange (spam protection) and Forefront Server Security for Exchange (malware protection). If you are interested in option-B, you should read my post (yes you got it right) on Windows Essential Business Server blog for more information: http://blogs.technet.com/essentialbusinessserver/archive/2009/06/18/exchange-server-2007-email-security-and-malware-protection-in-ebs-2008.aspx
