How to Register SPF as System Center IaaS Provider for Windows Server Service Management Portal & API

Following the recent Beta release of the Service Management Portal and API for Windows Server, a couple of our hosting solutions field guys in Europe reported issues getting the portal to successfully register SPF as the System Center provider for IaaS.

With special thanks to Michel Gebbinck & Steve Belton for always jumping on this stuff right away, and Marc van Eijk for his work on this issue, here’s the guidance we’ve settled on:

  • Follow the steps under “Enable Service Provider Foundation for use with a portal or application requiring basic authentication”  at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj642898.aspx
  • Make sure the SPF VMM app pool account is a VMM Full Admin
  • Add the SPF VMM app pool account to the SPF server's local groups: SPF_Admin; SPF_VMM; SPF_Provider.

Thanks also to Marc Umeno, Gang Cheng, and everybody who participates in and supports our discussion alias and other community forums where a lot of this stuff gets sorted out.

Onward to final release!

  • I have posted a extensive blog on IaaS in the Service Management Portal here.

    www.hyper-v.nu/.../windows-azure-services-for-windows-server

The blog also contains the installation steps.

  • Good day.

I have been having the same issue regarding the registering VMM in and the steps for enabling the service provider foundation for basic auth no longer seem to be in that document.

Are there any other places that it would be listed.

A number of posts all list that as the document to reference but no one seems to have the content any more.

My app controller is working fine,  SPF is working but i just cant get VMM to register and the error in the event log points to invalid basic auth settings.

    Thanks

    Davey
