We use this blog to talk about Microsoft’s approach to Openness and our investments in standards, interoperability, and integration with open source software.
You can imagine my dismay to hear that the free C/C++ compilers will not be available in future, either in the Windows 8 SDK,or in Visual Studio Express 11 versions. This seems utterly senseless, and also counterproductive to building and growing a strong Windows 8 application environment. The above ports will cease, along with other high-quality and useful software. Nobody wants this, surely?

This has been widely reported e.g. arstechnica.com/.../no-cost-desktop-software-development-is-dead-on-windows-8 and also seems to be confirmed at msdn.microsoft.com/.../hh852363.aspx

Please, tell us it ain't so?
