Due to some publishing delays, the new article “Customize the 2007 Office system to work with a non-Microsoft e-mail application” will not be available today on TechNet. So, in case you were anxiously awaiting the specific “how-to” information, here is an abbreviated version in blog form.
See my previous post on this topic for the overview (Customize the 2007 Office system to work with a non-Microsoft e-mail application).
Maintain a non-Microsoft e-mail application as your default e-mail client
Select and complete the appropriate solution steps from the following list:
· If you are deploying the 2007 Office system, without Office Outlook 2007 or earlier, to work with a non-Microsoft e-mail application, follow these steps in the OCT:

· If you are deploying the 2007 Office system with Office Outlook 2007 and you want an existing non-Microsoft e-mail application to remain the default e-mail client, follow these steps in the OCT:
a. In the navigation pane, in the Setup area, click Modify Setup properties. b. Click Add to add the following names and values that are appropriate.

OUTLOOKASDEFAULTCALENDARAPP
OUTLOOKASDEFAULTMAILAPP
The names of these properties are case-sensitive and must be typed in all uppercase letters. Not all the properties are required. For example, if you only want to keep Office Outlook 2007 from being the default e-mail client, use only the OUTLOOKASDEFAULTMAILAPP property.
Change the default e-mail client for an existing deployment
· If you are going to add Office Outlook 2007 to an existing 2007 Office system installation but want your existing non-Microsoft e-mail application to remain as the default e-mail client, follow these steps in the OCT:
· If Office Outlook 2007 is installed but you need a non-Microsoft e-mail application to be the default e-mail client, follow these steps in the OCT:
b. Click Add to add one or more of the following registry entries.
Software\Clients\Mail
Leave blank
Your default e-mail client – for example Lotus Notes
Software\Clients\Calendar
Your default calendar client
Software\Clients\Contacts
Your default contacts client
To determine the correct name to use for the value data for these registry entries, follow these steps:
i. Start Internet Explorer.
ii. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
iii. On the Programs tab, click the E-mail list or Set Programs depending on the browser version. Determine the name of the e-mail client that you want to configure as the default e-mail client. Use that name as the value data for the registry entry.
iv. Similarly, you can find the value data for the default calendar client and for the default contacts client from the Programs tab of the Internet Options properties page.
· If a non-Microsoft e-mail application is already installed and you then install Office Outlook 2007, Office Outlook 2007 will automatically be set as the default e-mail client after installation. Use the Set feature installation states area of customization in the OCT to deploy Office Outlook 2007. For more information, see Change users' configurations after installing the 2007 Office system and Configure feature installation states of the 2007 Office system.

The links for "Change user's configurations..." and "Configure feature installation states..." point to the C:\ instead of a web address.
I assume this article addresses the problem that Outlook thinks it's the default e-mail client despite an alternative being set in Internet Options under Programs?
Thanks!
Whoops! The links are fixed now. Sorry about that.
Yes it should address the scenario you mentioned.
