How to: Type in my language using Office 2010

Hello Dears,
I am Scenari - the advice columnist for the Office Global Experience team and I have been using computers for a very long time. (Now don’t even think of asking me

re: How to: Type in my language using Office 2010

I have searched help forums and asked everyone I can find, but noone has an answer, so this is just another attempt as you seem to know what you're talking about in this article and it is a similar problem to the one I have been wrestling with. However, the above method doesn't work for me because the default language I want is UK English and this is already there in the list and it won't let me add it again, but nor will it use it.

My problem is that Word defaults to US English and auto-corrects to US English. But the only place that US English appears on a language list is when I pick the language option from right-clicking a 'misspelt' word (by 'misspelt' I mean a word I typed correctly that Word altered to US spelling). In this list, it is marked as US English. I alter it to UK English, it then spell checks THAT WORD ONLY in UK English.

If I use this option to 'set default language' to UK English, I get the warning about this will affect all files based on etc etc and I think, yes, if only, but of course it doesn't. Sometimes, it will use UK English for that file on that occasion, and for certain bits of it. I haven't worked out a pattern. The usual is that whatever I do, I can make it use UK English for single words only.

If I use Office or Word-Options-Language (from within any program) it has UK English already listed as the default and allows no changes. The only thing I haven't tried is deleting UK English and re-adding it but I'm afraid of losing it altogether. Is there a solution other than binning Office?
