Last year we released Microsoft Office Mobile 2010 Beta, a suite of productivity applications for Windows Mobile 6.5 phones, on the Windows Marketplace for Mobile. First and foremost, we want to thank everyone who has tried Office Mobile 2010 Beta and has given us valuable feedback.

The Beta expired on April 5, 2010. We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused. While the expiration date was mentioned in the product terms of use, we realize that you may have questions and we decided to answer them in today’s blog post.

Does this impact me? If so, how?

If you installed Office Mobile 2010 Beta on your Windows Mobile 6.5 device, then this does impact you. As of April 5th, you are unable to launch the Office Mobile applications on your phone.

How can I resolve this issue?

  • If your phone came with Office Mobile 6.1 pre-installed (the previous version), then uninstalling Office Mobile 2010 Beta from your phone should resolve the issue as it will revert your phone to the older version of Office Mobile.
  • If your phone did not come with Office Mobile 6.1 pre-installed, then you will first need to uninstall Office Mobile 2010 Beta and then re-install the older version of Office Mobile. For the small number of Windows phones that did not have Office Mobile 6.1 preinstalled, it is available here for purchase.

If I uninstall Office Mobile 2010 Beta, will I lose my documents?

No, uninstalling Office Mobile 2010 Beta will not delete or alter any of the documents you have on your phone or Microsoft Office SharePoint Server.

When will the final version of Office Mobile 2010 be available?

Office Mobile 2010 will be available for download through Windows Marketplace for Mobile at the same time as the Office 2010 suite in June 2010.

  • When will the Microsoft Office 2010 suite be available for purchase.  I'm phoning from a purchasing department within a post-secondary institution.

  • Isn't this post 3 days late?

  • Why expire the Beta *before* the RTM version was available?

It's not logical to force people to go back a version.

Typically a beta expires after RTM is available giving people a window in which they can move (via uninstall and then install of RTM) to the same version but at released level.

This is the first time I have seen a beta expire before RTM and people being advised to go back a version.

Poor decision on someone's part imo.

  • Why isn't Microsoft telling whether Office 2010 Starter on new PCs will have to be activated?

And a giant F-U to everyone using it. It would've killed you to delay the expiration until AFTER the RTM's released?

  • This is pretty s.... in my opinion. This is not the way to go Microsoft. I also don't usnderstand your explanation either. I thought I had windows mobile 6.5 so it doesn't tell me what I should do!

There is so much potential in Windows Mobile yet Microsoft can't get their act together!

  • This is about as bright as Apple's decision to restrict app development, why dont you release it as a beta again in a fan fare and push the app store for win 7 mobile more...

I have both a Win 6.5 mobile and an Iphone, the win 6.5 walks all over the piece of art I bought which is unusable after two hours due to appaling battery life.

You can win the war here as long as you dont upset the user with a short sighted policy on removing abeta before the actual release, total madness.

Why did you do it ?

  • very nice

  • Okay, so will the RTM of WinMo Office 2010 be any different?  The beta was barely different from 6.1 and certainly not worth any purchase price, if I already have 6.1.

In particular, I want a more functional OneNote.  The OneNote that came with OneNote 2007 was incredibly lame and nearly useless.

And if "Windows Phone 7" is the answer to a better WinMo Office, then you've lost a customer.

  • hye there..
