Jens,

You are right, i need not move the users from one pool to another pool if there is a pool failover, the users automatically will login to other pool but with a limited functionality.

Jens - when i get a error "limited functionality due to outage" can i know what are the features that get disabled / or what are the limitations in the outage mode?? I know the client looses its contacts and conference information, apart from that is there anything else which is disabled or limited in outage mode...

Jens it would be really helpful if you could give a suggestion to implement Lync 2010 without hardware load balancer. Can i use windows Network load balancing ?? i have about 200-300 users and i do not have money to buy a HLB as they are too expensive.. Please suggest.. And if use DNS load balancing will it work fine ?

@Prajwal:Your question is not really related to Locations in Lync 2010, but let me try to give you a brief answer. If you need more information please use the relevant Technet forum.

When pool1 is unavailable the users will automatically sign in to pool2, if the infrastructure is supporting it (DNS records etc). You don't have to move them there. When they sign in to pool2 they will be in Limited Functionality mode, since their User Services is not available. This is expected and per design. As soon as pool1 comes back up the clients will automatically sign in to pool1 and will have full functionality.

Jens,

I have installed Lync 2010 in test lab(lync enterprise). I have 2 front end pools(pool1 and pool2) , in each pool i have one front end server, and 1 dedicated backend server.Now in each pool properties, under resiliency i have selected other pool as backup registrar pool. example for pool1, resiliency backup registrar is pool2 and for pool2 its pool1.

Now i enable one of the user in lync control panel and assign user to pool1. so as long as pool1 is up the user is able to login. once i bring the pool1 Front End server down and from pool2 Front end lync control panel i move the user from pool1 to pool2 , the lync client shows a message " limited functionality due to outage "

i have set failure detection interval as 30 sec and failback interval to 60 sec.

i have not used DNS load balancing neither HLB. i want the lync client to be up and active even though one of the pool goes down.. in my case the user remains logged in to lync client but with an error.

how to fix this error ???

And I do see KB that indicates what is fixed - 2653950 The file name and icon do not display when you send files in Office Communicator 2007 R2

Also I don’t see the article listing any Lync updates ?

Is there any particular reason, why some of the recent KB articles for OCS R2 and Lync updates do not discuss what was fixed/changed actually? I cannot do Impact analysis plans for the scheduled update periods in my projects as I dont know if those updates fix any affected issues or not. Dont let your SMEs lost in the dark!

I see this is a feature of the hosted Lync service, when will this feature be coming to the on-premises Lync community? This is something I have been requesting for quite some time. This would help us bring our conferencing offering up to par with what we would have with a WebEx, GoToMeeting or hosted Lync solution.

Please let the powers that be know that we in the wild would like to be able to add this type of interface to our own installations of Lync.

Question on using Lync on a mac with Lion via Network Connect. My MacBook Air with Lion on it functions 100% when I am in the office and connected to the network. Lync works just fine with no issues in this senior. I take my laptop home and login to work via NetConnect and Lync is the only app that will not work. What is the difference?

Could you describe your problem in more detail?

A dot at the end of a record is quit normal. See also www.the.net/.../dns.php for further explanation.

The tool should work if the DNS records are created as described in the deployment guide:

Hi Keith, this article is very well written. The Nexthop blog is an essential source of information when learning about Lync Server 2010 and the inner workings going on, but some articles are super hard to read, this one is not one of them, kudos!

A quick question - is it possible to view the current logical registrar sequence for a given user?

The NextHop Team just received this comment: "I thought that installing the Archiving role (talking about the server role and not the DB) on the same SQL cluster as the Archiving DB was NOT supported. I was told that this is due to the fact that the Archiving Server role is not cluster-aware." We are checking this out with the NextHop Technical Review Squad. Hi Dsatkhan,

in a meeting, each participant or presenter will be allowed to use all workloads, that are allowed for the user who created a meeting.

However creating a meeting (planned or adhoc) requires Enterprise CAL.

For Standard CAL users, EnableAppDesktopSharing should be set to "none".

This way Standard CAL users can still use application and Desktop sharing when presenting in a meeting, but cannot use this feature in a peer to peer conversation.

Can you please confirm that EnableAppDesktopSharing must be None for Standard CAL user? According to MS:

"Conference Presenter Experience: Upload and advance PowerPoint slides; Initiate Recording; _Share application_; Manage Roster; Manage Meeting lobby; Use DTMF controls ¡§C all of this as an authenticated user"

is possible for Std CAL. In such case EnableAppDesktopSharing can be Desktop providing that user joined as participant.

Am I to assume from this that the Lync client logically ANDs its local IP address with the local subnet mask to form the SubnetID and sends *that* to the Lync LIS server for comparison? If so, that simplifes things a bit.

Because the documentation is unclear on that, it's confusing to network administrators wondering where to put the subnet mask in to Set-CsLisSubnet!

Has anyone that implemented this noticed that the Lync client takes a long time to login when on VPN? Just a nusance, otherwise this solution rocks! Users "Internal" flag is set to fale when on VPN and traffic is routing over the Internet tunnel exclusively - excelelnt article!

The reason that we deleting the sip_profile due to the fact I wanted this script to be simple and without depending on user inputs in view of reducing the humin effort involved. also i dint want the scrip to burden the machine performance by doing too many queries to gather information regarding user sip Uri.

Looks like script is misleading. instead on only deleting galcontacts.db, its deletes the folders. Scarry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
