Microsoft Lync Server 2010 does not support the use of Microsoft SQL Server 2012 for the following server roles:

  • Lync Server 2010, Enterprise Edition Back End Server databases
  • Lync Server 2010, Standard Edition collocated server databases
  • Lync Server 2010, Central Management store master replica databases
  • Lync Server 2010, Archiving Server, Archiving service databases
  • Lync Server 2010, Monitoring Server Reports databases
  • Lync Server 2010, server role replica databases

The reason this is not supported is because SQL Server 2012 no longer uses the Database Management Objects (DMO) functionality that is used by the following Lync Server 2010 installation sources:

  • The Lync Server 2010 Deployment Wizard 
  • The Lync Server 2010 Install-CsDatabase PowerShell cmdlet
