Microsoft’s dedication to hiring the brightest minds in the field is embodied in today’s announcement that Dr. Jeannette Wing will be the new Vice President, Head of Microsoft Research (MSR) International.
Dr. Wing is a leading figure in computer science research, particularly in formal methods, security and privacy. She has held key positions in both academia and government, most recently at Carnegie Mellon University as the President’s Professor of Computer Science and Head of the Department of Computer Science and previously at the National Science Foundation (NSF). Within the computer science community, Dr. Wing is well known for her advocacy of “computational thinking,” an approach to problem solving, designing systems, and understanding human behavior that draws upon concepts fundamental to computer science.
Dr. Wing will join MSR in January 2013, assuming responsibility for MSR’s research laboratories in Bangalore, India; Cambridge, UK; and Beijing, China and reporting to Chief Research Officer Rick Rashid.
Full details are on News Center and suffice it to say that we’re looking forward to following Dr. Wing’s work here on NEXT.
