Earlier today, the SkyDrive team announced a big update in line with their vision of ‘designing personal cloud storage for billions of people’. It brings new storage options, new clients and a more capable cloud to use them with. Here’s what’s available as of today:

  • SkyDrive for the Windows desktop (preview). View and manage your personal SkyDrive directly from Windows Explorer on Windows 8, Windows 7, and Windows Vista with this new preview app available in 106 languages worldwide.
  • SkyDrive for Windows Phone and iPhone updates, including support for iPad. These updates include better management features and sharing options, as well as a single app (a “universal binary”) for iPhone and iPad users. The Windows Phone app is available in all Windows Phone 7.5 languages. The iOS app is available in 32 languages.
  • SkyDrive for OS X Lion (preview). View and manage your personal SkyDrive right from the Finder on your Mac with this preview app (available in English-only during the preview).
  • Fetching files through SkyDrive.com. Easily access, browse, and stream files from a remote PC from anywhere by simply fetching them via SkyDrive.com. SkyDrive.com and this new feature are available in 93 languages worldwide.
  • SkyDrive storage updates. A new, more flexible approach to personal cloud storage that lets power users get more storage as their needs grow.

 

I’ve been using the new SkyDrive in beta on my own devices (Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Phone) for a while and it’s a big step forward in my view – elegantly integrated and powerfully mobile.
